bike knocked over in nyc, need advice on repairs

yeah, parked in manhattan came back 20 mins later and noticed a broken clutch lever, broken left footpeg and of course a big ass softball size dent where the handlebar dug into the tank of my 01 900 monster dark. frame sliders prevented more damage. bike had been picked up and put back on kickstand. what a great guy. also for some reason took the broken parts from the ground, they were nowhere to be found. my questions are, what is my best option for replacing the passenger peg? i dont want new rearsets, i just powdercoated mine black. the pegs seem like a pain in the ass to remove and install. also more importantly, what to do about the tank? there doesnt seem to be any paint damage although there are a couple of dings and scratches i did myself that i wouldnt mind getting touched up. anyone in the new york city area you guys could recommend to help me with this? also a good price is more important to me than a super flawless custom job although i dont mind paying for good work. i guess somewhere in between is where im at. ive searched the forum and would like to avoid taking the tank off and mailing it to a guy and not having a bike to ride for a month. thanks for any and all advice, this shit is really bumming me out and id like to take care of this as soon as possible. also posted in the nyc club forum.

Take a good look at the frame stop on the steering head for cracks, and your handlebars may be bent.

Pegs are easy.  Someone I know had a no speed drop while we were on the road that busted a riders peg.  All we needed was the flat balde from the stock muster tool kit and about 5 minutes to swap the passenger peg into the riders spot.  It's easy.

There's a steady supply of stock rear sets on ebay - or check out the parts for sale section, there's a number of bikes being parted out.  And there's always aftermarket ones too

Check eBay for pegs as well -- you can get a used pair for very little and powdercoat those.  The installation takes about 15 minutes and can be done with allen wrenches.

if the tank doesn't leak, ride it for now until you find someone local or the weather turns and you can be without the bike.

Whoever fixes it, make sure you have the hinge reinforced and the tank coated.

A cheap job can turn expensive.

If you have the dough to, you can get new rearsets with fixed pegs, they will act like a slider when your bike goes down since they dont fold in.

if that is true and it really is happening,.. well let's put it this way, i don't want to write what i think should be done to/with those individuals on the forum board as it will definitely be breaking the rules of the forum board.  let's just say that the comments would be negative and extremely prejudicial.

I hope this isn't true....That would be the biggest scumbag move I've heard of in a long time.. Plus, Boston cops will probably find out + start doing the same thing!!

i don't think it's city-wide "official policy" ..  but something fishy is definitely going on, you'd be blind to not see it.  crackdown after crackdown, plus the whole city is refusing to follow federal law regarding bikes in HOV lanes..

im pretty sure a cop didnt come by and purposely knock my bike over. i parked behind a big sedan and it was gone when i got back to the bike. im pretty sure the car backed into my bike and picked it up, then picked up the bits that snapped off. any advice on the original questions would be appreciated also, thanks for the advice already given.
