I figured out what was the problem with the m750: the half bushings on the exhaust headers were mounted upside-down bang head bang head bang head

Fantastic!  I was thinking big-end bearing.  900 no have fuel pump?  I haven't heard such craziness since the last time I heard Zoom say anything.

The rattling was coming from everywhere so I couldn't really figure out what was going on, so I had just given up and decided to heat wrap the exhaust from the vertical cylinder.

As soon as I take off the mufflers, the headers just dangle like balls. I'll put the half bushes on right tonight and then go hide  Embarrassed Embarrassed

I'm sure I've done worse with my bikes (getting a screwdriver stuck in a sparkplug hole comes to mind) though few months ago I fixed my Jeep GC's window regulator (PIA!!!).  Put whole door back together, it didn't work.  Forgot to rehookup the electricals  bang head

Have not hear from DRKWNG or Lars assume your trip back was okay? Hopefully the pace was not too slow for you, the transitions from dry to wet to dry required backing off the pace a little, once we separated I ended up on much drier stuff, ended up doing about 450 to the hotel in Danville. Found a few new keepers down by Smith Mountain Lake. I'll try and send you both a route sheet late tongiht. The new toy is having her coming out party tonight, some of the guys are meeting me at the Santini's in Oakton. - Gene

Yep, Lars and I made it back without too much drama.  Thanks for leading us out last Saturday Gene.  It is a shame that the road was as damp as it was, as some of those spots would have been mighty fun given the chance to open it up a touch.   Evil

Status Update Re: SoMD Crab Run on Sat. (as of Fri, 08-20-10, 9:00 AM).

Okay… it looks like we have a quorum for the SoMD Crab Run on Saturday with LARS, DRKWNG, Cagey, and twolanefun (and gonefishing).   Sugonaut and Ducati Culture are both less than 50% likely, but are still welcome.

I’m proposing our group starting point be from Penn Quarter, at the corner of 7th Street and Indiana Ave / Penn Ave, NW (near the Navy Memorial / National Archives metro).   Address: 325 7th Street NW, Washington, DC 20004‎.

Please be there in time for stands up at 9:00 AM.  It would be a good idea to arrive with tanks full, but we’ll meet up with twolanefun and gonefishing at a gas station along the way (~15 miles outside of DC).

Twolanefun agreed and is preparing a route back through some excellent roads in Virginia.  It should be fun.

Finally, I will PM my cell phone number to each of you.

Status and Level of Interest Update Re:  SoMD Crab Run on Saturday, 08-21.

At this time, the weather looks like it will fully cooperate for a Saturday ride.

Mostly Cloudy
Wind: SE at 9 mph
High: 87 Low: 73
Precip.: 20%
Humidity: 61%

The original offer was to ride from DC (Penn Qtr) down to SoMD and back on Saturday; and stopping for lunch at the Drift Inn Crab House.  Gene (twolanefun) replied generously offering to lead the ride back through some excellent roads in Virginia.  I think that would be great.

However, if you are just interested to ride down, have lunch, and essentially reverse the route back to DC area, I'll stick with my original offer.  If some are interested in following Gene, and the group splits after lunch, that would be fine too.  Personally, I would rather extend the ride back with Gene leading us through some twisty back roads in Virginia.

So, if you are interested, please reply with your level of interest/confidence (i.e., 100%, >75% (greater than), ~50%).

Gene,
I'll send you a PM or call you with a proposed spot where we can meet up.

ORIGINAL POST:
I am trying to gauge interest for a ride originating in DC down to SoMD and back on Saturday, 8/22 21 (weather permitting).   I know Lars has lead several excellent rides to SoMD through AA County and probably into Calvert County.  My route (mostly two lane roads) runs through PG, Charles and into St Mary’s County.

I propose meeting in DC’s Penn Quarter neighborhood (Starbucks at the corner of 7th & Indiana/Penn Ave) with stands up at 9:00 am.  The itinerary includes stopping for crabs / seafood lunch at a truly authentic and waterfront crab house.

The ride route down can be as short as 1½ hours or can be easily stretched to 2+ hours before stopping for lunch, and then riding about an 1½ hours back to DC.  If we leave at 9:00 am, I estimate we should be back to DC by 2:30-3 pm.
