I've read the tank thread, but the info got my head spinning quickly. I've seen a lot of questions answered but never this specific one.

I heard that an '06 Metal tank from an S4R would fit an S4RS. Is this true? If not, will any metal tank fit an S4RS?

I'm thinking that if I run into a good deal on a steel '06 s4r tank I'll snag it and try it out.

Same here. But it would be good to know if that tank or another does fit, if none of them would work, or it's not worth the hassle, etc.

You can most likely get a steel tank on that bike.

The info in the tank thread isn't that daunting.

I did go through the tank thread a few times, but it didn't seem to answer my question.

I'll try to source a metal tank and see if it'll fit. Expanding plastic tanks are no good. Plus the magnetic tank bags don't stick to the plastic tanks very well. Smiley

BTW, if '06 fits so will '05, '04 and '03.

Thanks pompetta. I wasn't sure if the '06 had a slight difference which would make it fit. It sounds like the tanks on the Testa motors have a slightly different shape. But we'll see.

I asked a similar question in the Tech section a few months ago, here is the thread,  http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=35030.0

To cut to the chase here is speeddog's answer to me..."You'll need all of the parts that go inside of a metal tank, none of the stuff from the inside of the plastic tank will work.  You'll also need the hinge plate and rubber pad for a steel tank, and the filler mounting ring and gasket.  Front latch and rubber pads that rest on the frame will fit."

Given the above answer I took the free replacement plastic tank Ducati offered, now I hope to finding a coating for the inside of the tank to keep it from expanding again.

1 more thing, I beleive 05 was the last year of the metal tanks

I have both tanks. I love my plastic tank though. Its eaten shit like 7 times and there isnt a dent. But if your bikes never going to eat shit like mine. THose metal tanks are really awesome. When you get on the bike, it just feels different. Much more gas, and the bike feels more real.

The S4Rs has a different airbox setup and the fuel pump is oval at the rear to make up for the different space, so i dont know if it will fit.

If you want i can snap a pic of the underside of a steel 04 tank and send it to u for comparision. it will defintely fit the round fuel pumps on the plastic tanks though.

Case: Thanks for the thread link! It does seem like there's some interchangability, but as He Man said above the S4RS has some different bits below it.

He Man: Photos would be awesome. I've spotted some online but maybe more up close stuff would be good. I wonder if the older style tank fuel pump could be used or upgraded to suit the S4RS.

Bump for this, anyone ever confirm a 05 metal tank will fit?  I found one, but it's $$$ and I'd sure hate to have to try and re-sell it if it doesn't work out......

I've never had a confirmed answer from anyone. I don't know of anyone who's tried it, or taken measurements.

How much did you find the '05 tank for?

Oof. Well, I'd donate some money to the cause. If you end up buying it and it doesn't fit, you can resell it. I mostly just want an answer to the question. I'd love to get some extra capacity in my S4RS. The biggest question is whether or not it'll clear the head/airbox.

Mine is a 2006 S4R Final Edition and I have a metal tank....so 05 can't be the last year.  I wanted to find another clean metal tank, but people want an arm and leg or they are beat up.
