Ducati sound question

when you think of the Ducati sound do you think of open air box or not? I have had it both ways and like both.  just curious.

When i think of the sound i don't think of the airbox noise, I think of the bassy twin with a bunch of mechanical clicks and clacks.

I do love the induction noise ohhh so much though, just not thrown in when i think of Ducati.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

I have carbon fiber Sil Motor exhaust (no db killers) and at idle it sounds good, on par with termi, leo's etc, on the bike I barley hear it. I know its sounds good, I just like to hear  alittle more. I am not  aloud pipes save lives guy, but I love hearing Italian enginering!!

I love hearing that engine run, loud exhaust, loud intake, and all those mechanics in between.

The more visceral I can make the experience the better.

short answer, no.

long answer, the ducati sound is the mechanical sound you hear of the desmo system at work, along with an aftermarket exhaust that lets out the low tone of the exhaust at the cadence of the 90 deg v twin that a ducati puts out.  the level of sounds is of secondary concern, i think that after a certain point hte whole louder is better routine is a tired routine.  you can have both the sound of the desmo system/dry clutch and exhaust all at the same time and not have ti obnoxiously loud with the exhaust and the open clutch being the ones you can control the amount of sound coming out of.

the airbox never comes into it for me.

the sound of the d16 is a completely different thing, and is crazy good, but that is not the classic ducati sound in my book, its better.

My S4Rs had full Termi Exhausts w, no db killers, w, open Air Box and I liked the loud sounds that the overall bike made.

My 1098 R has the Full Race Termi Exhausts w, no db killers w, the stock Air box and I like the loud sounds that I hear from that bike a lot.

Whatever loud sound comes from your Duc it probably sounds good !

Open Air box will make it louder for sure to you the rider.

I prefer the sound of the intake sucking in mass quantities of air

to me the exhaust isn't the sound of the motor as one can put an aftermarket exhaust on any motor and completely change the sound

the intake just enhances the motors sound

i dont like open airbox sound. its to in ur face and gives me a headache even with earplugs in. pod filters though. i ride like an asshole just to hear my exhaust. theres really no other reason.

I ride like an asshole b/c I enjoy the hell outta it.

The exhaust noise is just a nice side effect.

i need to correct that, because i have stock exahust on, u cant hear shit. I meant i like to hear my intake!

Yes and no.  Mostly the distinctive exhaust pulses with all the mechanical noise from the valve train.

900SS w/ Sil carbon mufflers.  Rather quiet at idle, but a quick pull on the throttle gives a nice snort from the airbox.  Louder than the exhaust actually.

M750 w/ modified Termignoni carbon mufflers.  Airbox is quiet as a mouse, Mufflers not so much.

I liked my open airbox however I thought it was louder than my exhaust (Sil) I got the bike dyno tunes today and decided to keep the stock lid, i like my exhaust. My helemt blocks a lot of the sound, but it sounded nice on the dyno!!! My air fule  ratio is MUCH better, I have no hicups from the airbox, and almost no pops on decel! My bike feels alot better. Now once the chain and sprockets wear out I will go up 3 in the rear and be close to done!!

I have pods on my bike so I kinda don't even have a clue what the exhaust even sounds like.
All I hear is what sounds like a flock of geese underneath the tank.  [cheeky]

I like the sound. the tuner said I could put the open airbox lid on and it would still be OK....wouldnt that lean it way out? the fuel air is about perfect right now.
