What's the deal with these things?

Never heard of CANIK before.  Im not in the market but is this a price point gun?

It's a Turk brand.  There are probably 20-30 gun companies in Turkey.  They are not bad quality, they are a Walther P99 clone.

Maybe yes maybe no.

I think they have stopped importing them.  If they aren't parts compatible with the Walthers then you're SOL if something breaks.

I picked up a Daewoo DP51 when they were being imported and then Daewoo went under and now I am left with an orphan gun.  It's super high quality so probably nothing ever will, but you never know.

I posted that elsewhere, but the title annoys me to no end.  The dumbass who wrote it perpetuates the incorrect term.

Moreover, it wasn't the rifle that was printed, only the lower receiver:

However, as I also pointed out, the ability to make guns at home has been around for a while.. AK receivers are just stamped metal and can be built pretty easily.  The tricky part is the barrel.
