Moreover, it wasn't the rifle that was printed, only the lower receiver:

Thanks for the follow-up. But isn't the lower the most important part? Can't you buy everything else over-the-counter without ID?

Yes.  Legally the serialized part is the firearm (as derby mentioned), but the popsci article makes it sound like they printed a whole gun.

Polymer lowers are not that unusual.  Bushmaster bought Calvary Arms, which invented an injection-molded lower from glassfiber filled Zytel, which is the same Dupont polyamide that Ruger uses in its pistols.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I just purchased a Spikes AR 15 stripped lower.  Let the games begin!

I'm going to build the lower up with some nice hardware and a good stock, then pick out a couple of uppers.  Probably a pretty basic M4 style upper with iron sights for plinking, then go crazy with a high quality varmint upper and optics for the trips out to North Dakota to visit family.    Something to reach out and touch some coyotes after I max out my daily pheasant limit.  Maybe 6.5 Grendel.

Hopefully I'll get the lower and M4 upper wrapped up this year.  The varmint variant is probably a solid year out and will also involve a handloading setup.

Snake

I have been considering buying an AR in 9mm from JP rifles.  They use one of their forged complete lowers, and a modified RRA 9mm Upper.  They offer a version using their SCR upper (billet with a side charging handle) but they claim its only used for select-fire versions for LEOs. I mainly want this gun to motivate me to apply for a Class III tax stamp and get a suppressor.  They claim 2 MOA accuracy out to 200 yards with decent ammo.  This would be plenty for the carbine matches I would use the gun in.

I can't find time to change oil in my vehicles much less waste a good filter as a can. [laugh] [laugh] Interesting video though. [popcorn]

seems to me if you used an old filter it would suppress even better, but i'd pre-drill the hole first and let the oil drain out as much as possible.

Before anybody actually goes out and tries it, isn't it a big no no to attach any sound suppression devise to your firearm before paying Uncle Sam?

It clearly states that the adapter is registered as a suppressor.

Why do you need a suppressed rifle?

Polite shooting practice.
