Cool. Yea, get some photos up and show it off.

Kydex stuff is great and all but there is just something awesome about hand made leather anything. Don't care if it's a saddle, one piece leathers or a holster/belt. Cows were put here for a reason and the steak and burger part is just a side benefit. [laugh]
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

Here ya go Fastwin, a fake alligator OWB  ;D  I'm making one for a Walther PPQ right now (no fake alligator on this one.)  It is drying. I'll get pics up when it is done.

The holster isn't finished yet. Just out of the oven. Still have to buff it, another coat of dye, then seal.

For those of us not in the know, can you give a basic rundown on the build process?  And how that impression gets made and stays in that form. I read something about an oven...

Sure  [thumbsup] Hopefully this will give you a rough idea.

Step 1:  Draw the pattern.  I start by tracing a belt, then placing the unloaded weapon on the paper at the carry angle that I prefer. I then just start scribbling lines and erasing until I get the shape I'm going for.

Step 2: Trace the newly drawn pattern on to the cow. I use 9 oz shoulder.  I then use a round knife to cut it out.

Step 3: Glue, dye, then stamp/carve whatever pattern I want.

Step 4: Sew

Step 5: Form the holster. I soak it for 30 seconds in hot water. I take the unloaded weapon (which I've wrapped in plastic wrap,) and slowly work it into the holster.  It will be tight.  After it is in, I use my fingers to work in the details of the weapon.  I then use something smooth, like a sharpie, to add more detail. After I am happy, I remove the weapon and bake the holster in the kitchen oven for 45 minutes at 180 degrees.  This dries and hardens the leather.

Step 6: I let it dry out over night in front of a fan, then add any finishing touches and sealing with some sort of waterproofing.

Really nice work!

I've recently been playing with kydex.  Mainly for sheaths.  All the forums I've read recommend using the "blue guns" to form the holsters.  Applicable for leather?

Thanks!

Very applicable. I plan on buying some of the red mold guns. They have the trigger area filled part way so you do not mold in too deep, and also have the area between the sights filled in.
I want them so I can bake the holsters with the guns still in. I also wouldn't have to break the gun down and clean/oil do to the moisture.

i am curious how it does with armor.

if it cuts as it seems to, that would defeat body armor and therefore it gets reclassified since it's pistol ammo.

The order I placed with Buds Guns.com came in.

It arrived when it was supposed to.
It was a good price.

And I would buy from them again.
