I’m a huge proponent of dry fire training, I do it every single day, along with 2-3 live fire sessions per week. I’m a student of the game and I’m always learning.

Do you think this would be worth the investment if you want to practice with feedback more often than you can make it to the range?

I’ve never used that product, or anything similar. I would never buy one, but if you think it would help, go for it. I dry fire on small 10x6 IPSC tgts, I also use 3x5 cards. I set them up to use as single or multiple tgt scenarios. I do a lot (shit ton) of mag changes, as well as moving and shooting drills. Fundamentals!

Pistol training at the range is paying off, more to come on that. Grin

If you’re following along you know I do a lot of dry fire work. Here’s a great drill that works a lot of mechanics. Empty mag in the gun, 2-3 empty mags in your kit. Use a tgt (3x5 card etc) draw and attempt to fire (don’t hot mop sight alignment & picture) obviously the gun won’t fire. Here’s where we get rolling. Tap rack (in the shooters box-work space) it’ll induce a slide lock, drop the mag reload, re-present and fire another shot, tap rack reload etc etc etc. You can make a shit ton of money running this drill. We really want to work on our focus shift from the threat/target to the magwell back to the tgt to the sights in sequence. Work on being fluid and not jerky. Speed will come naturally. As always, double triple check your mags before any dry fire training. Oh and it’s free.

Ok, so today I worked on tying the tap rack drill into live fire 1-1-1 drills. You can vary it up at your discretion. Start with 1 round in the gun, next mag on your kit is empty, next mag has 1 round etc. Or start with the empty mag first. If you’re shooting with someone, you can have him/her set up the mags and put them in your kit and gun. This way you have no idea the sequence and work the immediate action as it happens. You want to run these drills until they are performed at a level of automaticity.

Taught a pistol class in Lynchburg TN yesterday. Rained all day and the suck factor was high, but all the students hung tough. I actually started with them Friday evening and went over the fundamentals in detail as well as a solid 2hrs of dry fire work. Their minds were opened to what’s really involved in CMMS/SDS shooting. As always I learned along with them. Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals.

I'll just grab these four shells and pop 'em in real quick one handed.
While I'm doing something else.
Easy peasy.

Jeez.
