Should I add it to the family? Is it a good long term buy regarding reliability and durability?
SIG makes quality products. I’m not a fan and don’t own one, but that’s all personal preference. I don’t think you can go wrong purchasing one.

Thanks dp, that's pretty similar to what's on it. Pest control would be my use for it aside from teaching my son.
I don't have hands on with the Sig 226, I borrowed a 229 for some range time. Solid and well made and shot straight but was simply too bulky for my hands and liking. Nothing *wrong* with it it just wasn't a fit for me.

If you keep your eye out, you might find a oem scope for that rifle. Gun show, etc.

I’m a BCM fan, but here’s a good list.

I'll second that on the BCM.

This weekend I picked up a used 226, rosewood grips, stainless steel slide and in very good shape.

It went good, being it was a church group they got the PG rated version.
When I do a class like this I try and push the envelope a bit. I try and give them enough so they realize they need more training from myself or another instructor I’d recommend. High level of CMMS or SD shooting is nothing more than the fundamentals done at a level of automaticity. This takes a lot of work.

Are they having more training?
They most likely will. When we get into this (or any) type of training, most folks are clueless as to how much dedication it takes to get proficient. If people are going to take up the position to protect the sheep, they need to understand their capabilities and limitations. This can only be done with continuous training. I’m a huge proponent of dry fire training, I do it every single day, along with 2-3 live fire sessions per week. I’m a student of the game and I’m always learning.
“I can’t teach you to be a better shooter, but I can teach you to teach yourself to be a better shooter.”
The guys who get really good, have the ability to train themselves. Until you get to the point of really being able to diagnose the little things, this can’t happen. Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals.
