Thinking about putting the same sight an a Glock 40 MOS.
Are you co-witnessing the existing sights and does it make a difference whether you do or don't?

Great question. Several theories out there now, and that's part of the reason I'm doing a full 5k round test. The red dot is certainly not a bandaid and will require even more training to be able to run it as fast as iron sights. The focus is completely different and depending on how much a person has shot this can be difficult. I personally don't believe in co-witnessing sights. Our subconscious mind is more powerful than our conscious mind and will try and grab the iron sights if they're in our focal plain. If' someone really needs (not sure why) to run irons in conjunction with the RMR, it definitely needs to be in front of the RMR. For folks afraid the red dot will go down on them during an engagement, I say front sight post only. I've trained that drill with SF guys for decades on an M4. You just use the glass as a large rear sight and center and align the front sight post in it. At CQB distances you can easily hit center mass. I'm not gonna try a 25-50yd head shot that way. (Real world. In training yes).

I'm not running any sights on that gun other than the RMR. ymmv

Here's something else to think about. When running iron sights our focus is on sight alingnment, equal height equal light. This is a conscious thought as the subconscious will override us and want to see the target, not how it works. (That's why you miss. That and a bunch of other shit we do as shooters) Running a red dot we can actually focus (natural) on the target and superimpose the dot on it. This therory is being debated as well. I'm gonna run it both ways and see what happens. For guys running just irons, DO NOT run tritium 3 dot setups. Contrasting sights is the answer, black rear and fiber optic front outshines everything.

Thanks for the informative reply.
I have a Vortex Venom on my M&P and struggled finding the dot while looking at the target.
As always, continued practice was the remedy.
Just wondered what the best set up might be for the quickest dot to target acquisition.

The Trijicon RMR is the 'standard', the Leupold Delta Point is solid as well, although they don't have as wide a variety of dot sizes. (6.5 is optimum for SD shooting) The Vortex is a good buy, but doesn't stand up to really hard work. Folks gotta remember that red dot on a pistol has to ride the slide. Lots of beating and banging around. I would have to be standing on the range with you to really be able to give you feedback on what might be happening. Just a quick pointer (you may already be doing it). The red dot ðŸ"´ has to come up to your eye (line of sight) without moving/dipping your head. If not we have two things moving in opposite directions and trying to stop them both. Head up, eyes up, gun up. Dry fire that red dot at nauseam.

Might have to give you a call and pick your brain before I spend big $.
The Glock 40MOS is meant to be a hunter for hog, deer or bear which should reach out to 50 yards +.
That said, what would be your recommendation for dot size?

Let me know what would be a good time to call.

Kopfjager

If you're pretty much gonna shoot it at 50+, the 3.25 would work. Call anytime.

Shot the second drill today. Controlled pairs from position 3, 500rds. The STI is down, so I ran the M&P with a new RMR. Everything is pretty straightforward so far, we'll see how it goes as I progress to more difficult drills. I'm digging it so far.

What's up with the STI?
And the sugar fountain fairy swore so hard when she came to super-size that stale hope soybean; liiiike a homeless German woman. Who is this super-sizing spirit-crushing femme? And tell her I'll break a tree root up in her shrimp.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

Lockup is too tight and the extractor needs tweaking. He'll get it back to me pretty quick.

Ran 500rds today from position 1 (holstered). 250 singles/250 controlled pairs, driving the dot back in for a second-third sight picture. Several times I'd drive the gun to a second or third target, but not shooting (don't want to get ahead of my plan). I've been running AngelFire 147.

Another 500rd session today. Singles/Controlled Pairs on tgts of varying sizes, heights and distances. Putting in the work on learning the RMR.

Kopf, how many hours a week would you say you spend putting lead down range?

I only do two live fire sessions per week when I'm training. Normally it's 250-300rds per session. I'm shooting 500 each now because I'm doing a 5k trainup with the RMR. It only takes 1 1/2 hrs per normal training session, but these are taking a bit longer. I do dedicated dry fire sessions on the other days. That's where we make our biggest gains, it can be done anywhere and it's free.

I bought my STI in 2007, and it's time for for a refresh. Likely doing the RMR cut as well.
