I'm sure Nate will chime in on this, but figured I'd neat him to the punch. CZ-75. Go hold one and you'll understand.
And the sugar fountain fairy swore so hard when she came to super-size that stale hope soybean; liiiike a homeless German woman. Who is this super-sizing spirit-crushing femme? And tell her I'll break a tree root up in her shrimp.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

...and he can find a used one for well under his price point. ;D

New will be somewhat more.

Nobody around here (that I know of) sells CZs. You're gonna have to introduce me to yours at the next Dimby

He's in Cali and has to buy a gun off the approved list, so fewer CZs around..

Yeah, I'm in Cali and really the only CZ on the "list" is the CZ 75 and I gotta say, it's not grabbing my eye like the other 2 I mentioned.

And now for something completely different: Bug Out Bags

I don't mean to get all Y2K weird/survivalist/live in a cave BS on this thread, but my friends and I were talking over beers (naturally! [thumbsup] [beer]) recently and the topic of shit hitting the fan came up. Pick your own personal version of shit hitting the fan. [popcorn] It was just a nice, semi drunk, mental exercise in "what would you do". On a more serious, sober note I was wondering if any of you had such a kit bag/pack, what's in it and what would you like to have in it if you were putting one together? I'd love to hear what the pros/military/LE folks have to say.

I'm thinking 3-5 day bug out pack. Naturally there is the gun/self defense issue. Rifle, shotgun, pistol, magazines, ammo, basic cleaning/repair kit, mag pouches... What guns, what calibers, etc.?

Water bottles or hydration pack set up. High energy food, flashlights, 2 way radios?, cell phone?, fire starter/lighters, space blanket, sleeping bag, rain suit, small tarp, basic medical supplies, extra clothes... ah, the list could go on forever. Shit, forget the pack! I'll need my Suburban!! [laugh] [laugh] And a trailer!! [thumbsup]

And what would you carry it all in? I've looked at Blackhawk, Cheaper than Dirt, etc. and there are many good and not so good options out there.

Just wondering and thought this was a good place to ask. [popcorn]
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

Get what you like.

I like the all steel CZ 75 platform.

Sigs are great guns from what owners I know tell me. That is of course allowing for the occasional person that won't ever be happy. ;)

Hey guys, totally off track of what's being talked about over the past couple pages but.....

I'm in the market for a handgun for home defense/zombie deterrence, I feel like I've narrowed my choices down to either a Sig Pro 2022 or an FNP, both chambered in 9mm. Both of these have been chosen due to price, hand feel, and aesthetics. I had the chance to shoot a few sigs (239, 226, 229) and love them. I haven't had the chance to shoot an FNP though. They both seem comparable in weight and both feel pretty damn good in my hand so...

Thoughts on these two pistols?

Or other recommendations (I'd like to stay at a price point of $500 or lower)?

Hi duc750.  I was in the exact same place you are.  I asked the same question and posted some of my experience on this thread just a few pages back.  The FNP-9 and Sig P226/229 was on my list of guns to try out.

I didn't particularly like the polymer frame/steel slide combo like the 2 on your list.  It just feels awkward in my hand.  It's top heavy like I am handing a hammer.  I love the feel of all steel gun so if I had a choice, I would choose the P226/229 over the 2.

I also wanted to stay within the $500 budget so I reludently crossed off the P226 off my list and went with the CZ 75B.  Of all the 9mm I've tried, it's the most accurate and ergonomic for me.  It looks fantastic (to me at least) and very reasonably priced.  It's the best kept secrete of the 9mm world.

I like the idea of an all steel platform as well, only thing is there's really only one dealer that's relatively close to me. They don't carry CZ's and most, if not all, of the guns in my price range and 'legal' in CA seem to be polymer framed. There was a pawn shop I went to a year or so ago that had quite a bit of random used handguns, maybe I can check them out again.

My sister has a 229 .40 and I love the hell outta that gun, it's just a bit out of my price range right now.

I was kinda set on getting a .40 but the dealer said a plus P or plus P plus for the 9mm would be relatively close in stopping power?

The whole debate on a 9's stopping power has been beaten to death.

Most guns can handle any SAMMI rated load.

Most guns wouldn't like a steady diet of +P+.

If you are just carrying the heavy loads...almost any gun will throw a few. ;)

my opinion is that if you're capacity-limited *cough*california*cough*, then you might as well carry a bigger round.

i have an old p226 in 9mm and i've been looking at replacing it with a p229 in 40sw (with the option to swap barrels out for 357sig).

nice thing about the p-series sigs is you can also get a 22lr kit (barrel, slide, spring, mag) for plinking... it'll pay for itself within a year of going to the range.

...admitting to not having read all posts I tend to agree with a couple of opinions:
Go with .40 S&W for stopping power
Buy used if you can and hold out for a good deal.
Bought a used Glock 23 for $400 incl. a safe and lots of ammo...
No regrets
