GUN STUFF

I think Glocks have a great deal going for them.  I have owned 5 of them and currently own two, not counting the barrel and slide left over from the 21 that let loose on me.  It is arguably the best, most reliable fighting handgun out there, all things considered.  They do have some issues, especially if you reload, that you need to keep in mind.  That being said, I am personally a little leary of the larger caliber glocks as they seem to have a larger unsupported area than necessary.  The 9mm's don't seem to have as much of an issue.

I'm thinking about picking up a 10mm Glock again.  The 45 and 10mm uses the same frame so I would be able to utilize my 45 frame and barrel.  I'd eventually have Barstow barrels fitted to both slides to make them a bit safer, more versatile and more accurate.

I recommend new pistol shooters learn on Glocks, if they fit their hand.   Some people with smaller hands and most of the women I have taught have an issue with the grip size.  I put about a half million rounds through 1911's in practice and competition before I started messing with glocks and I had a very hard time making the transition.  I bought and sold several of them as I was having trouble working with the trigger, grip angle etc.  I finally picked up a Glock 19 and have been shooting the tar out of it and am finally happy with how I can run it.  The fault isn't with the gun, its with the shooter adapting to it, especially when I had such a huge amount of muscle memory built up with 1911's.  I still get in trouble in an IPSC match.  I'm so used to 1911's,once in a while I'll shoot 4 double taps and automatically drop the mag to reload , realizing just as I hit the mag release, that my glock mag is still half full.

Wow, great info. I'm not familiar with the term "+P brass".
Please explain.

SAAMI defines safe maximums for average firearms for each caliber.  They ahve also designated a "+P" pressure load for many calibers which should only be used in guns that can handle the higher pressure.  The +P designation is the safe upper limit of pressure the case can handle in a properly designed chamber.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Some +P brass also is a bit thicker in the web area, where catastrophic failures occur.  One gross way to check is to weigh the cases - heavier cases usually = thicker and maybe stronger brass.

The flip side of this is the heavier cases will have less volume so a given charge of powder will generate more pressure, everything else being equal.

The 460 Rowland is an extreme example of this.  They built the web of the case extremely thick to try and absorb some of the pressure to attempt to take a bit of the load off the gun.

Ahem...

I suppose changing ones mind is a terrible thing to do. My apologies to a super member who disagreed with a statement and my decision to reverse it. I will contact you next time prior to doing so. Sorry to ruffle your feathers.

Apologies Again,

Maybe...

but many people believe that more is always better.

higher charges, +p...+p+...

9mm major...

fact is the unsupported chamber isn't always a good feature

you guys don't want to know what I think...

Right, I understand what you are saying about the +p, +p+ round, etc. However, if that is something the user is interested, why not purchase a firearm that is designed for it? That's what I've never understood about gun owners. Each gun is designed to shoot certain calibers and rounds. If you want something different, buy a different gun.

As for your second comment, I am not really sure what you mean?

It's a gun thread, this should be fun  [evil]

OK. No ruffled feathers and no ball breaking on my thread. You can talk about hunting and maybe drinking  [beer] [drink] but the rest is nothing but gun shit. Got some cool gun pics... sweet, post them here but don't neglect the gun pic thread. This isn't a replacement for that. If I had a camera and was smart enough to post pics I would do so on that thread. I've got some cool guns I'd like to take a pic of. The word "fail" follows me everywhere. [laugh] Sucks being a hi-tech goofball. ;)

There is no debate...

it's the one you can hit what you're aiming at with. ;D

If you hit it, but the target shrugs it off then it's not supreme.
