I would love to have one of those Co-Pilots.  I'm pretty sure Wild West will make you one in 45-70.  That is my all time favorite woods hunting cartridge.  We cast a 495 Grain gas check bullet and launch them out of the Marlin levers at 1750 fps.  It is an extremely potent round - recoil will get your attention a bit, but it performs every time.  I also swage lead paper patch bullets for the 45-70 that work excellently on game.  Shot my biggest buck with a 350 grain paper patch bullet in the Marlin 45-70.  No tracking involved.  Factory 45-70 ammo is pretty anemic except for Garrett or Buffalo Bore, but even then, it is still pretty decisive on medium size game.

The recoil of that co-pilot in their 475 cartridge has got to be pretty thumpy.  I'm used to shooting hard kicking rifles, but that one would probably try to loosen my fillings.  You shoot that rifle when you HAVE to.

How about something like this to mount the scope?

http://scopemounts.com/index.html?main.html

I said Gibson, I meant GIBBS... They made a bunch of interesting bolt rifles in the 90s, mostly from Ishapore receivers in 308 and 45-70

i don't want to lose the iron sights.  plus the front sight is high on that rifle, so any glass would have to be mounted higher.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Losing irons isn't a problem for my tired eyes.  :P

Nothing wrong with iron sights or enfields.  I have a #4 Mk1 303 that is a great shooter.  I'd like to run into a nice condition #1 Mk3 just to have.  I had an Ishapor 308 for a while but had magazine trouble with it and it went in a trade.  I really liked the concept.  I was in contact with an outfit in Australia that was making a "modern" enfield for a while, but I think they discontinued manufacturing.  They were chambered in 308 and used the Savage type barrel nut attachment system.  They had a number of interesting variations - wish they could have been successful.

I handled a m77 scout rifle about a week ago. I really liked it. It handled great, for the purpose. I think though that my variation of the theme will be to pick up a big bore AR upper and mount a fixed 4x scope to it. I've been eyeing 458 socom uppers. In fact, that was a primary driver in picking up the loading kit. It'd certainly be a fun thumper.

The magazines I got are clearly .303 magazines with a buffer at the front, sort of like the Beretta 7.62 Garands.  I can't imagine there would NOT be feeding issues with them, but so far I have had few.  I have only used Australian L4 milsurp to date though.  No commercial loads.  I know the L4 is loaded to NATO spec so it's relatively lower powered.

I've been looking at shoe-horning 7.62x54 into an AR.  Ammo is plentiful and cheap and it would be fun..

not debating the joy factor of any specific caliber over another...there is something about the slow burning thwooosh of a 45/70 in a sort of weird romantic kind of way that is attractive to me...that paired with a good lever action mechanism and you get sweetness.... though it'd be nice to have the .357 magnum because I could then share ammo with my revolver I think...

Check out the Marlin 1895G.  45/70 lever goodness with a ported 18.5" barrel.  Very shootable with factory loads, will thump the shit out of you with hot loads.

I like any rifle I can carry trough the woods with the muzzle pointing straight down and my arm is fully extended.

You're obviously a crack smokin' redneck carpenter. :-*

my .35 Remington lever action is a Marlin and I have been REALLY happy with that one...I wouldn't mind the 1895G, but the trick factor of how the CoPilot breaks down just was way neato-torpedo to me.

i've been looking for a cheap, beat up Marlin 35 Rem to  turn into a Marauder type carbine.  I think that would be a great woods prowling rifle.   One of my friends that passed away had a Marlin Marauder in 30-30 and had killed something like 47 head of big game with it including 18 elk.  There is a lot to be said for a light handy rifle that you have confidence in.  He was a good hunter, got close and made sure of his shots.  That little rifle stacked up a lot of game in his hands.

45 deg snap-on iron sights for an AR with an A3 upper and glass in the middle.

looks interesting, i might give them a try.

There are a lot of designs out there.  I like the folding ones just so they're out of the way when not using them.

And the sugar fountain fairy swore so hard when she came to super-size that stale hope soybean; liiiike a homeless German woman. Who is this super-sizing spirit-crushing femme? And tell her I'll break a tree root up in her shrimp.

Those are great but not with a low pro glass or red dot.

I love this pic

I pull it out whenever someone refers to the AK or AR as "high powered"

Do you have a bigger version?
It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.
