Tactical shotgun tip #1,295

I'm a fan of weapon mounted lights on long guns. AR platforms and shotguns. I have Surefire and Streamlight products using either quad rail AR forends or assorted scattergun mounts. I really like the Streamlight TLR-1 rail mount lights. [thumbsup] I have a couple of newer Glocks with rail mounts but use hand held flashlight techniques with my other handguns.

I'm also a fan of having a 2 spare CR123A batteries duct taped onto the long guns some where. Usually have the batteries butt to butt (the flat negative ends) with a wrap of duct tape holding them together with more tape holding the pair sometimes on the weak side of the stock.

Some of my self defense shotguns are fitted with the SpeedFeed stocks that have built in, recessed shell holders. They hold two spare 2.75" shells on each side of the stock. Simple, clean with nothing sticking out and the shells are held in place by spring pressure. What I discovered was two CR123A batteries taped together as described above are just about the exact same length as a standard 2.75" shotshell or slug. So a cool way to carry your spare light batteries on a SpeedFeed equipped scattergun is just pull out one of the spare shells in the stock and push in the taped together batteries in it's place. I slap a piece of duct tape over the area where the batteries are held just to make sure they don't bounce out under recoil. Zero problems as of yet. Again... simple, clean with nothing sticking out.

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

last night I stop by a local gun shop. Fortunately they had no 20 gauge semi shotguns. I was a bit relieved.   :-\

Maybe next week.   ;D

If you already have a 12 ga pump, why not get something a bit more different that just a semi auto 20.

28 gauge is like a 12 that doesn't kick.  Great on grouse, doves, skeet, sporting clays.  Light, elegant, slim and very quick.  Plus - its ITALIAN - goes with the motorcycle...

or a Beretta Silver Pigeon 28 ga Over Under or a Beretta  Side by Each 28 ga if you have deep pockets.

28 is getting a lot more popular - they even have it at Walmart.

You understand the pride of ownership of your fine Italian Motorcycle - your personal weaponry certainly deserves no less.

You are obviously a man of discernment who appreciates fine design.  The mere workaday guns of the masses will certainly not do...

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Nice iron. What's the difference between ejector and extractor?

My only grumble about 28g and .410 shotguns is the shell cost. When my Dad passed away I got his beautifull little .410 Citori that he never really shot. Looked new out of the box. Kept it as a back up on a couple of dove hunts for fun but it took a while to man up and pay for the boxes of shells.

My friend and his son shoot 28g (Ruger Red Labels I think?) and they are always pregnant doging about the expensive shells compared to a 20 or 12.

An extractor lifts the empty case partway out of the chamber (about 1/4 to 3/8") enough to grab the fired cases and pull them out of the chamber.  Ejectors fling the empty cases out of the gun when it is opened.

The prices of 28 ga shells has come down a bit lately, especially with the introduction of some less expensive European shells.  Shotshell reloading is not as common in Europe and shotshell prices are less.  I reload them so they are cheaper to shoot than 12 ga as I use less shot and powder.

I tend to be an over/under wing shooter and I have shot my friend's 28g Red Label on a dove hunt. Nice shooter for sure. But not enough to make me bite the bullet (no pun intended :P) and get one. Have plenty of 20 and 12gs and the one .410 Citori. I asked him once why he went the 28g route and all he said was why not. ??? Still, nice wing shooting shotgun round all said and done.

Stopped at the gun shop yesterday to check out shotguns.

Looked at a NEF Pardner pump action 12 gage (seems to be an overseas 870 clone) and a Mossberg maverick o/u break action 12.

I liked them both!

$239 for the pump. The Mossberg was $500 I think. Which is too bad because I loved how short that one was. 18-1/2 barrels.

I love guns.

The Pardner is a Chinese Rem 870 clone.

Speaking of Chinese scattergun clones, check out a Savage/Stevens 350. Very nice all steel upgraded clone of the classic Ithaca 37 bottom feed/eject shotgun. There is a field version and a couple of 18.5" barrel self defense style guns. One of them has a basic front bead sight while the other one has some nice ghost ring sights with a green fiber optic front sight that has some sturdy protective steel ears around it. The rear adjustable ghost ring is a steel knock-off of a LPA sight. Again, an all steel gun with a decent synthetic stock set and it has two slide action bars versus the Ithaca's single bar. Check it out... cheap too. [thumbsup]

The Pardner is made by Hawk Industries in China, which is AKA Norinco.  Norinco has been making guns for ages -- pretty much all the Chinese SKS and AKs that came into the US were made by Norinco.

Those are a few notches above the "Brolin" shotguns made by Jing An (not related to Norinco).. The Jing An factory guns were very rough finished, but all the receivers are hammer forged and are excellent BUT the moving parts are not well finished and I've seen some of the trigger pins etc give out.  Seems someone could have bought them and "Americanized" them with uprated parts.

That's exactly what Walt Kuleck was doing with the Polytech M14 receivers -- the Poly M14s are hammer forged.  He'd strip them and put USGI parts in them, and finish them.  The Poly M14 receivers are as good or better than the originals and much more durable than the current type which are investment cast.

Spent a few minutes at that Bullets.com website - good amount of high quality stuff and the prices do not seem to be out of line.  Interesting!

Seems the owner of Grizzly is a shooting enthusiast.  Might have to give that Grizzly spindle sander a second look.
