Never have scoped my M1As or my FALs. Wanted to, but just never did.

I forgot to add my FALs to the .308 list in my earlier post. FALs and M1As are very different animals but equals in a weird sort of way... at least to me. Iron sighted, big bore, battle rifles in a Garand kind of way. Too bad the right shoulder is toast. They'd get more playing time otherwise. [thumbsup]
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

If that ends up being the case, one of these will be in its future.

Some users are reporting recoil reduction down to .223 range.

Can they make one twice that big? [laugh] Beats major shoulder surgery! ;D

I have a custom mauser in 416 Taylor (458 Win necked down to 416) with a brake - its about like shooting a sporter weight 30-06.  Real noisy but pretty pleasant for such a heavy hitter.  (400 grains at 2400 fps)

I don't know if Bruce McCarther still makes brakes in Michigan, but they were the best I've ever used.  My wife and I both shot a 14 lb bullpup 50 BMG with his brake and it was about like shooting a 12 Ga slug.  It kicked but a can't imagine shooting that rifle without it.

His brakes were pretty complex with several chambers and in inverted cone inside that stripped off the expanding gasses.

His 375 H&H kicked a little less than a 308.

There are a couple brakes out there that claim to redirect the noise forward which helps keep the greatly increased muzzle signature down.  I don't have any personal experience with them but they are the VAIS brake and the ANSWER brake.  Worth looking into.  IIRC, VAIS is in Texas and they install their brakes pretty reasonably.

This isn't a dress rehearsal for life - this is it!

If you're just benching the M1a, between a heavy barrel, muzzle brake, lead shot in the stock holes and a scope you can turn it into a dead weight with pretty nominal recoil...more weight, more inertia

May need a cart or an assistant to get it from the car to the bench tho   [cheeky]

Kiss the web of your shooting hand goodbye. [roll] PPKs, PPK/S, stock, full spurred hammer 1911s and Hi-Powers are the kings of the universe when it come to hammer bite. [bang] They punish you for getting a proper full, high grip on the pistol. Don't ask me how I know. At the range wear a tactical shooting glove or tape up the web of your hand with athletic tape before you bust caps. Trust me, I'm not with the government and I'm here to help. ;D

Quite.

My Sistema 1911 with the spur hammer is zero fun to shoot without gloves, as it makes me bleed.

Hasn't been a problem yet.  The PPK/S seems to have a longer tang than the PPK.

Good luck to you. [thumbsup] I've got every pistol I mentioned and they all have taken good bites out of me. Don't really even shoot the Walther's any more because of it. Sad but true. Maybe you use a bite proof hold. :D

I had bigger issues with "slide bite" on the Walthers that I had shot.  Great little pistol though, assuming you can overlook the hamburger mess it makes of your hand.
And the sugar fountain fairy swore so hard when she came to super-size that stale hope soybean; liiiike a homeless German woman. Who is this super-sizing spirit-crushing femme? And tell her I'll break a tree root up in her shrimp.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.
