Idle 700 RPM sometimes?

2002 750 ie  Sometimes it ticks nicely at 1200, sometimes ow like 7, 8, or 900.  It stays steady wherever it idles, but it's different depending on -I dont know what-!  Doesn't stall, just idles low.  Everything stock except Remus DP pipes.  I believe bike runs a touch lean, I get some backfiring and such.  Gonna have it into a well respected independent Ducati mechanic for some diagnostic.  Hoping a Throttle body sync and TPS tweak might make the difference.  Any ideas what could be behind the fluctation in idle?

Not sure, but my 900SS does this.  It's a 2000 and is FI also.  Does yours happen to have a hiccup around 4000RPM?  Mine also has that, and I'm thinking that is related to the lean factory fuel map ~

my 05 620 also does it but it will run great when i start it up and ride but after about 10 minutes it start to idle low and then fluctuate from around 600 to 1500,when i take of it will hesitate and and kind of skip, then after first gear it seams to run fine until i stop again. it dosnt always act like this and i noticed that after i changed my plugs it kind of smoothed out abit and now will run around 1000 to 1500 most of the time.

Yep, it has that hiccup around 4k RPM, too.  I am with you on the lean factory fuel map, though my ECU doesn't allow for mapping as much as just simple trim.  Did you guys notice this start to happen kind of gradually and then get progressively worse?

the_Journeyman

I bought mine with almost 12,000 miles on it and the hiccup has been there since I bought it.

Do you have stock exhaust and ECU?  Did the bike come with maintanence records?  How many miles have YOU put on it?
