QuoteEuro drops to new four-year low against US dollar
Euro and dollar notes

The new lows came as Germany tried to limit short-selling   [laugh]

The euro has plummeted against the US dollar, falling below $1.22 for the first time since April 2006.

The eurozone's single currency fell more than 1.7% in afternoon trading in New York, to $1.216, before rallying.

The decline came after Germany announced plans to ban naked short-selling of shares from midnight local time (2200 GMT).   [bang]

The single currency dropped by more than 2% against the yen.

Traders fear that the austerity measures being put in place in many eurozone countries will hit growth.

Despite the huge sums of money pledged in support for eurozone countries, severe measures are needed to cut budget deficits and debt.

The German government's ban will apply to the country's 10 most important financial institutions, and aims to stop the short-selling of euro government bonds.

Short-sellers usually borrow shares, sell them, then buy them back when the stock falls and return them to the lender, keeping the difference in price.

"Naked" short selling is when sellers do not even borrow the shares.

Ducatis arent german.  ???

In case you weren't aware, the Euro is used in Italy, among other places like Monaco, Vatican City, France, etc -- the exchange rate to the dollar is the same everywhere.

The highlighted portions I added were just commentary -- I found it interesting they needed to stop short selling as it may go even lower.

At some point I pray for the day when the people storm the board rooms, trading floors and exchanges and drag these make the beast with two backsers out into the street and lynch them from the  lamp posts

I no longer see much of a hard connection between traditional national GNP/wealth-creation based in production and the casino game rigging that the global markets have evolved into

illusionary/ "Virtual" wealth creation through generation of bad debt via junk bonds or sub-prime junk mortgage paper and now algorithmic trading, dark-pools and currency manipulation etc are keeping the markets driving ever-further ahead of regulatory oversight, said oversight which at best renders an after-the-fact control rather than a preemptive one

nothing new actually...nor will the eventual collapse be anything new

the more I look at my 401 the more I think I should be stuffing my mattress with precious metals or using the printed paper I get to buy dirt

more and more I get the sense that everyone is "playing against the clock"....

rolling the dice in the gaming room on the foundering ship until their feet get wet, hoping to win enough to buy their own personal lifeboat

jeez I have a dark view of the world this morning  :-X

Mostly agree with you RATT900, but I would rather see our government leaders taken out to the wood shed for spending money that we don't even have, and allowing the shenanigans to occur on Wall Street.  That being said, if I had the money I would buy a place somewhere remote and build a house off the grid.  Just in case...

Tizz,

I get what you are saying.

But then again, I deal in a lot of currency transactions.

Let's just say with our fiscal year end approaching, lots and lots of cash is moving out of US Cash pools ti oay down our loans in other countries (netherlands and luxembourg.....nice tax havens)

I'll find out the actual spot rate tomorrow as I need to clear out some EUR accounts.

However, I don't think it will lower the price of Ducati's in the US, just will give you more buying power in Europe (where EUR is currency)

The one currency that is really baffling me now is the CAD.

We are about even now, plus/minus a penny.
