Unfortunately for you, good sir, Iowa is 7th in the nation on head of cattle (beef as you call it).

I am not sure there is such animal as a "beef" but I suppose I will let it slip.

In 2008, Iowa had approximately 4.0 million head of cattle which accounted for 4.1% of the total amount in the United States of America.

Now, that does not give a break down of the type of cattle.......whether it be for milk or meat production. However, one could consider one in the same as it is common knowledge in the livestock industry that old milk cows are turned into low grade hamburger.

The winner would be Texas in the amount of cattle in the United States of America.

Upon further research, your argument takes a further nose dive in the category of "beef producing" states.

Iowa is ranked 10th (also a 2008 statistic).

Therefore, you have a 10% chance of getting a steak from Iowa if all things were considered equal, which they never are.


You do, however, raise a good point on what state produces the best tasting beef (proper use).

I've got a friend that owns a "ranch" in southern Indiana with approximately 300-400 head of Black Angus.

That is some of the best beef I have eaten; it is 100% grass fed verse being hauled off to some huge feed farm in Colorado or other states.
