I will save Skynet from Sarah Connor

« on: July 31, 2010, 09:42:02 AM »

Got in about 70 miles this afternoon Cheesy

I soo love this bike. It's all but unstoppable.

I lubed the chain when I got home and snapped a couple pics.

This little guy was hanging around when I was doing the chain.

8050 trouble free miles to date. Love it!

It came with pirelli scorpion synchs

the rear lasted 4500

the front was done at 7800

I bought a pilot road 2ct about 3000 miles ago (rear) and it's almost toast.

The front... I threw on a power race that I had laying around. I've run those on the street before and they work fine even at a really hot street pace.

Not thrilled with the life on the PR2 rear. I think it has everything to do with horsepower and liberal use of the throttle.

Probably not going to get another one.

Try a pair of Dunlop Sportmax Q2s.

They won a 4 tire Brand  ( Michelin, Bridgestone and Pirelli ) comparison especially for agressive riding and wearability.

Nice bike!  I'm surprised about the wear on the PR2's most people on here rave about them.

Did it come with those steel protective guards below the radiator shrouds? I also love the look of that bike! With my bunged up broken neck and upper back damage I seriously need to look into getting rid of a superbike or two and get something more along this line. These and the Hypers just look like they could do some serious damage to my driving record. Police Not good for an old fart to have that many tickets! laughingdp But that's all I think about when I see a SM-type bike. Look up traffic ticket in the dictionary and you will see a pic of a SM! laughingdp

I have even avoided demo days at AMS on purpose for that reason. But... I sure would like to try one. Evil My back and neck would thank me. That will be my excuse. Grin

Again, awesome bike! Like the KTMs even more than the Hyper! waytogo

Those are ktm tank guards for the 990smt

I put them on because they look badass Smiley. Only minor mods to make them fit. I also thought they would be good to mount aux lights or highway type pegs on.

Sbks would get me above 90mph. 50-90 I'm right there with them and below 50 I'll pretty much crush them.

At low speeds the ktm changes direction like a 10 speed.  I'll ride it like a sumo then. If I'm above 50-60 I'll hang off on the inside and twist that throttle Wink

The upright ride position is nice. With an airhawk seat pad I've done 600 miles stright.

I also added the barkbusters and the screen is for the 690sm but it easily fits the 950.

If you go looking for one, the smr differs from the sm in color scheme (smr has orange frame and black forks & swinger) the tank also holds less fuel because it's thinner. My low fuel light comes on at 100 miles.

Used SM's can be had in the $5k to $7k range.

I was wondering about the tank size and fuel range. Sounds like Hyper/Monster range. I'm old and injured, I tend to like to get off, gas up and stretch around 75-100 miles anyway. No interest in Iron Butt records at this stage. Grin I may have to cruise by RPM (local Triumph, KTM, Aprilla dealer) and check those scooters out. Of course it will all be your damn fault for posting those pics! laughingdp Don't be surprised if you get my ass chapped wife on the phone chewing you out! laughingdp

Now is that a different seat or are you talking about some sort of cushy/gel seat cover? Not familiar with what you mentioned... just curious.

Google airhawk seat and you'll see what I mean.

It's a pad that you inflate and put on top of the oem seat.

Also, there's a thread on advrider called "the 950 supermoto chronicles"

It's like 200 pages and has everything you'd ever want to know about these bikes.

They're great bikes, come with pretty decent WP suspension, 950 4v engines that put down around 100 horsepower & radial brakes/master cylinder.

Plenty to get into trouble with and you're unlikely to see another one around. They're rarer than Ducatis used to be. How can you go wrong?
