You have $10,000 to build your dream bike.

Post links to everything you purchase.

Yes, just $10,000.  Install labor is free, but paint, fabrication, engine work (i.e. head, crank, etc) work is not

You can buy any bike and customize it, but:

1.  It must be a Ducati.
2.  It can be any year or model.
3.  All parts must be commercially available or custom, but you have to post a link or info about the part(s).
4.  Must be either STREET or TRACK.
5.  Your starting bike should be as close to stock as possible.

the point is to show off what your "bike bucket" list is and what you'd do if you could.

JFF = just for fun

This is the bike I would start with:

1997 900ss CR
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290458379467

10,000 - 3,999 = 6000

SIL header
http://www.spareshack.com/products/230/900SS-carb-91-98-Sil-motor-Spaghetti-Style-Headers.php

6000- 915 = 4100

Sharkskinz mono seat ($250) plus pads ($180) plus paint (200) = $630
Raceparts rearsets ($150)
HC pistons ($650)
Heads ported and flowed with the SIL exhaust ($800)
Nichols flywheel $450?
Bucci alu clutch $500
SIL high mount CF cans $800

will finish later... Cheesy

i think 10 grand was a lot to start with.. not much of a challenge.. maybe drop it to $5K?

Starting point: 1965 Ducati 250cc Scrambler -- $250

mods: remove and sell everything except for the engine and front/rear hubs ($244 to use elsewhere -- profit!)

build:

- motocreations 1934 Rudge frame but configured for Ducati single engine -- $1400 (mostly labor costs)
- motocreations girder fork w/shock and friction dampners -- $1800 (mostly labor / jigging to build)
- speedwell seat -- $145 (eBay)
- seat shock/spring -- $150 (eBay)
- rebuild Ducati engine with extensive mods (www.ducatiphoenix.com -- $1500)
- racing carb with velocity stack -- $400 (eBay)
- Buchanan relaced 21in wheels -- $800
- 21in Avon Speedway tires -- $300 (parts unlimited0
- re-line brake pads -- $55 (Tacoma Brake)
- reverse pull brake/clutch handles -- free (from Poland swapmeet)
- choke lever, decompression lever etc -- parts box
- custom headlight / taillight -- $800 (labor costs plus vintage lenses)
- motocreations aluminum fuel tank -- $1000
- custom fabricated rearsets / pegs (parts bin and some fabrication) -- $500
- cloth wiring - $200 (ask Stuart/FlightCycles)
- old fuse panel setup -- free (from UK swapmeet)
- steering dampner (friction) -- parts bin special with machined adjustment knob - $100
- paint -- leftover from a 1933 Alfa Romeo P3 racer (very dark red) -- free!
- sign painted graphics -- $500 (Dunn?)
- Ducati logos -- $600 (SeaCast in Seattle) to get cast in stainless and will enamel myself
- misc electrical -- $250
- steering tube bearings -- $125 (Tacoma Bearing & Screw)
- gauges -- custom made using vintage lens/faces  (myself)
- gauge cables -- $22

When done -- something that maybe Tazio Nuvolari (remember he was a famous motorcycle racer before becoming Italy's most famous racecar driver) might have ridden for the Scuderia Ferrari in @1935 and if powered by a Ducati racing engine.  Of course after building the first one the second one is easier and faster to build (and will be yellow or Ducati red and with a normal fork on it...)

Goal: to build something very different that is fun/unique and will get magazine coverage (already booked) for under $10K total outlay.

Hint -- see signature below

2004 749S Crashed ~$800 thats the buyback price for my friends crashed 749S. Engine has been blueprinted and balanced already, includes Ducabike Slipper clutch and a bunch of other rashed up parts that are still good. But most of it will be sold off to help offset the budget.

and since ducatiz is doing 15,000 im doing $15,000 too...  Evil

This is actually what im going to do with it since im on an actual $2500 budget...
1098 forks + calipers - $800
Aluminum subframe - $350
ECU Flash (guages are destroyed) - $400
FP Racing Levers - $165
Nose fairing frame- $150
Armored Bodies fairing - $650
Total $2515 Which is right where i am at as far as budget goes.... now what else would i do with the rest of my $11,685?

Berringer Rotors Cast Iron $1050
http://www.bellissimoto.com/BeringerRotorsandKits.html

GPR steering Damper $500
http://www.bellissimoto.com/GPRDampers.html

Woodcraft Rearsets $350
http://www.bellissimoto.com/WoodcraftRearsets.html

Matris F05-R 1098 Fork Kit $1300
http://www.bellissimoto.com/MatrisForkKits.html

Matris M05-R shock $1500

Kyle Racing Throttle Tube $100
http://www.shop.kyleusa.com/product.sc?productId=252&categoryId=58

Quat D SS exhaust $1350+800 (will get a custom header with it, maybe $800 bucks for the header?
http://www.motowheels.com/italian/myProducts.cfm?parentcategoryid=1219|749%2F999%20%20Superbike&productID=4761&showDetail=1&categoryID=668|749%2F999%20Exhaust&vendoridtodisplay=0&filterFor=&collection=168|European%20Motorcycle%20Parts

Kyle Racing 30mm Triples (yea it says 1098 but they also make them for 749, if not MW has them too) $850
http://www.shop.kyleusa.com/product.sc?productId=304&categoryId=58

This leaves me at $7800 bucks total and $3885 to spend, so it ends up either as Carbon Fiber wheels or a bunch of tires... if we are playing with $10000, that only leaves me with $2200 which in that case, I would use it on trackdays and tires. Carbon Fiber wheels can eat my dust.

BST Carbon FIber wheels (yes for 1098 also, but thye make htem for 999) $3500

with budgets of under $10K (or $15K)

If price was no object -- the extra Desmosedichi engine needs a custom chromoly chassis, restyled carbonfiber bodywork and a few other additions... and a slightly difference "stance/attitude adjustment" in my opinion. Can you say "DesmoDevil-sedichi"... Evil  (too bad the engine isn't actually mine)

having a limited budget makes it more interesting because people have to make choices.

what's more important?  or what does one THINK is more important?

depends on how your economic situation looks.

I dont have a lot of money, in fact ive never been as broke as I am today. And owning a ducati doesnt help for sure. which is why i do most of my own things, so i cant justify spending $350 on rizoma levers, when FP racing levers are half the price and function the same. If you have a budget to spend, spend it on something that is worth spending on..suspension, not NCR clutch covers that are over priced Evil

if you want to drop the price down to 5k, then just delete everything i spent on shit i wouldnt buy anyway cause i cant afford it. and stic kwith

749S $800
actual mods, or really parts i have to replace because they no longer work $2500
remaining $1700 would be enough to pay for a years worth of trackday expenses + tires.

I haven't priced it out, but my dream bike would something similar to this Radical Ducati.

Superbike frame
S2R swingarm
Air-cooled engine
V-Rod headlight
Custom bodywork
Custom Exhaust

I've got a hunch that it would be hard to keep it under $10K, but maybe I could do it by finding the parts cheap enough over a period of time and staying away from the high dollar stuff like the Ohlins shock.

No. But knowing of the existence of this motorcycle precludes me from dreaming of others.

I can delete the post if it doesn't fit in the thread.
