Triple J

I'd start with my existing 748 trackbike since I couldn't make anything I'd consider a "dream" Ducati for $10K, unless the bike was free.

It would be track only, as any dream Ducati should be made for the track IMO.

Paint: $866

All install would be done by me.

No motor work since the 748 is fast enough for me, aspecially given the tracks within a 15 hour drive. Miller is the only one where more power would be nice, and that's only down the front straight.

This should significanty lighten the bike, and also significantly improve its handling.  [thumbsup]

Mine is really, really boring and not the least bit custom.

Used Ducati 916 (pre-1988).   Red.  With full Termi system.  In near stock condition and in good shape for $6-7K.
Resprung/valved front+rear suspension.
Open clutch cover.
Aftermarket pressure plate.
Depending on how the lever fits, maybe some CRG or pazzo levers.
New rubber.

And that's it -- my dream bike.  I guess I *could* add bits here and there but that's not really part of my dream.
Occasionally AFM #702  My stuff:  The M1000SS, a mashed r6, Vino 125, the Blonde, some rugrats, yuppie cage, child molester van, bourbon.

Under $10K?  That would have been my old 98 Monster 900 that I bought for $3500., put a ton of goodies on which would have brought it up to nearly 10K. Rode it and worked on it for 3 years and then sold for $4,000.   [laugh] [laugh]

Actually for that money I think I would get some sort of 996/998 and do some good engine work to it and some suspension work. That'd probably would bust the limit right there.  :(
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

For 10k?
I really have no idea?  Check out Theo's (Taftnomonos) 2V Superbike project.  I don't know what his budget is, but I know he plans on making some money back by selling the 999R motor that he no longer needs.  Maybe he will weigh in.  He is saving money by just using the 999 tank and tail section instead of buying something European and expensive.  I wouldn't have to start with a 999R.  I could save by starting with a 749 trackbike that still had a title.  I know the DS1000 motor Theo is using probably cost 3-4K.  So I could use a 900 to save some money.  Cool Motogadget type guages can be expensive so I'd try to use something stock.
