What's the best way to go about doing this?

For 3 days we've kept them on opposite floors.  Neither one seems to pay too much attention to each other's scent.

The Frenchie likes to chase cats.  I think the cat will stand her ground though.

The s/o found an article that said to take it slow..obviously.  But it also said to put the cat in a cage on the counter or up high and let the dog come in.  I was thinking this might scare the cat.

Any ideas to make this go smooth?

keeping them in adjacent rooms with a door between them should let them get used to each other's scent. they'll also have some level of interaction. based on that, you can figure out when to give them supervised visitation in the same room.

Starting off with that.  The cat spends most of the day right now in the bathroom.  I'll let the dog go in the hall.  They're both small enough to put their noses and paws under the door to sniff/play with each other.

"Dogs have sort of a chase instinct" Laugh!  [laugh]

Man My dog would kill a cat if she had the chance. They be just like rabbits and skunks to her. The leash is a good thing I was going to suggest that. It worked with Tuscany (The skunk dog) when I Introduced Yoda when he was a puppy. Still Yoda had to get tough or die. For a little dog hes pretty tough when he has to be.

put a muzzle on the dog to protect his nose for when the cat tries to bat him in the nose....

Another vote for this.

Or you could stick them both in the bathroom, shut the light off and close the door ;D

and leave a pack of cigarettes and a lighter in the corner for the aftermath for them for when you walk in and they are both spent and cuddling while Marvin Gay's "Let's Get It On" plays in the backround....
