How do you get past the new bike blues?

I absolutely beyond a shadow of a doubt love my bike. It is exactly what I want it to be, or can be there with a few extra mods.

But every six months or so my eye starts to wander. The Street Triple R comes out and has fully adjustable suspension. There is a Sport 1000 for sale for less than I paid for my Monster new. It never fails that my mind starts running numbers on how I can make it work. The problem is I CAN make it work. I make ok money and could feasibly have anything less than $12k that struck my fancy. Especially with a 695 that I could probably get $4k+ for if I was so inclined.

But I definitely shouldn't make it work. My bike is paid off come March. I have a house that needs some updating. I have a girlfriend I am intending to ruin everything with and marry as long as she keeps putting up with my shit. I have the old VW in my avatar that is begging me to toss the motor I have waiting for it in over the winter which invariably comes with unforeseen bills.

So, there really is no way I'm going to buy a new bike in the coming year or two. I have the restraint needed to not make a kneejerk purchase of that magnitude. I'm sure this isn't an isolated problem though and I'm sure y'all face it constantly as well.

How do you deal with the new bike blues when you know you aren't getting anything new anytime soon?

That's the thing, I don't wanna :D

I like the Monster's looks much more than the STR, and the Sport 1000 is a torture rack for the riding I do. That's another part of the equation. I don't want another bike, but I still think about getting other bikes.

Yeah, I'm make the beast with two backsed in the head. I can show you a girl that can write a book on the matter.

Just start modding the make the beast with two backs out of the bike you have now. It will keep you busy for as long as you want.
Woohoohoohoo! Two personal records! For breath holding and number of sharks shot in the face.

Oh trust me, I've got new shiny bits on the way. I'm clicking the tracking number like a heroin addict on the methadone button. Little known fact, that makes it arrive faster.

This isn't aimed at a thread centered around me, I know how I deal with it (riding the piss out of it and making subtle spaced out changes). I'm curious what other people's "coping mechanisms" are.

So what you're telling me is this:

1. It's better than the other motorcycles I've ridden in every way imaginable, yet still manages to drive me batshit
2. It still will take a lot of talking to get it to do that thing I like
3. If I put it away hot it tends to get a little fouled up
4. If I ride other bikes it will find new and exciting ways to kill me
5. If I don't buy it new stuff every now and then I won't get to ride it as much
6. It's cheaper in the long run to maintain the current one than go out looking for a new one, no matter how much fun the short term riding would be
7. Whenever I start to think I'm smarter than the bike it finds new ways to completely dumbfound me with illogical problems
8. I should always take it easy immediately after installing fresh rubber
9. I'm not going to find a better bike, but damn if that's going to keep me from looking every now and then
10. It gets pissed when I hit it with a wrench

It's all so much clearer now, thanks!  ;D
