Meet the new vacuum molded plastic fantastic Diavel!

Seriously, is there any part of that bike that looks like it is made of metal? I'll give you the headers and the wheels.  Everything else just looks like it has a nasty plastic cover on top of it.  Maybe that is the joke?  Maybe they will just unbolt all that crap and show us something that looks decent underneath?   boo

Doubt it.

Two ways to build the Diavel:  stripped down muscle cruiser or high speed tourer.  Both could be cool if done right.

As for exhausts?  As asked before -- I can confirm 100% as of Saturday that our Duc.EE works on the Diavel. (and tested on the MS1200 as well a few weeks ago)  Exhausts options are now wide open and one can easily get rid of the dang servo motor and butterfly valve mechanism without any dash lights or EXVL messages appearing.
chug
Now has anyone confirmed the $24k price without ohlins? Tongue

From asphaltandrubber.com:

"DNT also tells us that the Ducati Diavel will start with an MSRP base price of $16,995, while the up-market carbon version will hit the wallet with an MSRP of $19,995."

i do believe the bmw is a loss-leader for their brand as their first entry into SBKs. When comparing prices, you must also compare features. For example, the brakes on the BMW came on Ducs as early as 2004, and now those brakes have trickled down all the way to the Ducati entry level motorcycles, like the 696, while the 1098 and then 1198 (and now 848e) have the higher spec monoblocs.  Then you look at things like the DDA, and disparity in weight (404 to 377/373['S']/364['R']), you see what makes up the price difference (14.8k v. 16.5k)

But price for standard 1198 is just 3k above the msrp of the R1/GSXR1000 (13.6-13.8 )

The BMW HP2 Sport's MSRP is 25.5k...

That bike will never see my garage, but the engine is totally bad-ass. If it were only possible to squeeze it into my s2r frame. Did they just whip this thing up over night? Did Ducati do any surveys? Clearly we all want more power, that's what make us dream of owning a Ferrari. Fast and sexy. not fast and fatty. And the whole price tag thing- If I'm gonna pay that, it better get me laid by someone other than a washed up biker hag.

Ducati must be targeting the guys who shell out 20k+ for a big ass harley.

I ride with a lot of harley guys and they all, ok most, hate the Vrod.  This bike is not going to attrack the Harley guys.

Considering the #1 best selling selling harley for all eternity is a sportster which runs ~8k NEW you are probably right.

* I wonder is the Diavel will be popular in europe. The guy my father bought his S2r1k form was fresh off the boat from Italy (a few years in US) and said that in Italy everyone rode HD, they were more popular than sportbikes by a long shot

The rear end is wrong for this, but everything is right.
if they extend the rear subframe more and add mounting points for hardbags and a tail bag, with the passenger seating position this could be a good replacement for the ST.
It has a comfortable looking seating position and the power for 2-up with luggage riding.
the exhausts are low to keep heat away from passegers
I think they've already thought of this after viewing the touring windscreen they have available
I also think the rear t-bar for the passenger is cool, but should come higher to act as a backstop for the seat.
My wife hates the feeling there is nothing behind her after the seat.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.
