I don't NEED it either, but it doesn't hurt/help.

I'd suggest an Old Fashioned. It's the ORIGINAL cocktail, and was an early 19th century breakfast drink in the early republic.

The traditional version goes like this:
2 oz bourbon whiskey
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 splash water and 1 tsp sugar (or simple syrup)
1 maraschino cherry
1 orange wedge
a feather from a rooster tail (as a garnish)

Mix sugar, water and angostura bitters in an old-fashioned glass. Drop in a cherry and an orange wedge. Muddle into a paste using a muddler or the back end of a spoon. Pour in bourbon, fill with ice cubes, and stir.

When I make them at home, I skip the water and sugar and just use 7-up or mist.

Sweet, un-girly drink = Captain Morgan's Rum and Ginger Ale.
Delicious.

Or Captain and Dr. Pepper.

The sweet tea vodka drinks (Jeremiah Weed, Sweet Carolina, Firefly, etc) can be deadly.

I like Canadian Club with Canada Dry. Sure, it's just rye and ginger, but I like to think of them as "Oh Canada (you sexy temptress)"

learning  to appreciate a good scotch can take a while.
I prefer Belvini or my favorite Laphraog 12 year. Its a single malt silky smooth and great with a slice of super aged cheddar. A little of both goes a long way. For good Vodka, Pinnacle is good , I believe it is made in the same distillery as grey goose which is pretty darn good. Its their cheaper label vodka. Same recipe same vodka, different label.
Sambuca which is a liquer is fabulous with a shot of espresso after a meal as a desert coffee.Nuke a couple of whole coffee beans before you make that drink and then put them in your glass before adding the sambuca. The warmd beans will release their oils and you will have an awesome tatsing drink. Careful, you will be drinking warm alcohol. Sleep is imminent, even with the coffee. It is amazing, I watched Rossi win in Sapang last nite his 46th win for Yamaha having one of these drinks and nearly fell asleep in moto 2.......
Then there is the old fashioned I am gonna get drunk drink.............Long island iced tea. Careful if you have one or two or three of these because in the am you will think you have been hit by a train.
Whatever your poison do it in moderation and as always, never drink and ride or drive.

Why do you prefer the green label?

Just b/c it's cheaper or do you actually prefer the lighter flavor?

I like the way it tastes better when mixed with coke. It's a little smoother than black label. The really good stuff in Jack Daniels Single Barrel, but I won't use it in mixed drinks.

I might not be able to get you into my favorite Turkey/Coke with your sweet tooth, but I might be able to convince you to try a Tom Collins. Or a John Collins, Juan Collins, Vodka Collins. . . . . The bartenders around here don't know much, so I just say Whiskey Collins.

Collins:
ice
2 oz. booze of choice (Tom=Gin, John=Bourbon, Juan=Tequila)
2 oz. lemon juice
1 teaspoon sugar (gomme) syrup
soda water
slice of lemon
1 colored cherry

I can't believe I forgot the drink I've been making weekly after I bought a bottle of Brazilian Rum: Caipirinha. Might not be the manliest thing around, but it is damn good.

I'll let the lady show you how to make it: http://www.lebloncachaca.com/caipirinha/

I think you are asking the wrong question. When choosing and alcoholic beverage don't ask yourself, "what would I like to drink?" ask yourself, "why am I drinking?" The "what to drink" follows naturally from that.

Sitting down to dinner or having tapas? Drink whatever wine goes best with the food.

Spending a day in the park playing softball with the guys? A cooler full of a light bodied beer will take care of you.

Having a bunch of people over for an informal summer party. A batch of sangria is fun and serves the whole crowd. Or fruity rum punch for something with a bit more kick.

In an upscale cocktail lounge and need to impress the people you are with? Shot gun a can of Schlitz because make the beast with two backs trying to impress people. WOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Have a tough day and need something to take the edge off? Straight hard liquor is what you need. Bourbon or a Gin martini.

Trying to get drunk enough to sleep with that ugly thing sitting across from you? Lots of booze and easy to drink are the qualities you need to get the quantity you have to have. Long Island Ice Tea is in order (or any local dive bar specialty that has the word "swamp" or "death" in it).

Is your therapist touching you inappropriately? Brandy and Rohypnal.

Are you a toothless wino giving out $3 blow jobs to other toothless winos but you just spent your last few bucks on a hit of smack? Cough medicine. Gasoline is 10% ethanol now. Hand sanitizer? Or maybe trying sucking on one those urinal mints at the mini-mart, make the beast with two backs I don't know.

I am crying with laughter  [clap] [clap] [clap]

I have always felt that what I was drinking was far far less important than what "she" was drinking.... and how many of them..... and how fast they were going down

I suppose in the case of alcohol-fueled pairings sometimes you're the Charity Case Worker,,,sometimes you're the Charity Case
This is an insult to the Pez community

Nice work, Sac!

Wasn't someone on here raving about drinks made with raspberry flavored vodka?
