Or, in my case, 3 at your birthday party along with several california car bombs and a tallboy of Mickey's and the next thing you know you're walking down the Vegas Strip drinking straight from a handle of gin.







And yes, Manhattans were what I was going to suggest for the OP as well.

They're better with rye, but you can make them with bourbon alternately.  The Makers you bought will do just fine.

Pick up some sweet vermouth and a bottle of angostura bitters.

Mix 1.5-2 shots of rye or bourbon and a little less than 1 shot of sweet vermouth on ice.

Fill a rocks glass with ice and drip 2 or 3 drops of bitters onto the ice.

Strain the liquor mix into the rocks glass.

Add a cherry or two and enjoy.


Depending on personal taste, vary the ratio of liquor to vermouth.  I like mine at about a 2:1.

It's a good sweet-ish drink but still has the great flavor of whatever liquor you choose to make it with too.

Dark rum, Blackstrap rum if you like molasses or sweet drinks.

Bourbon.  Bookers if you have deep pockets, Evan Williams single barrel if not.

Pinnacle vodka is a great, inexpensive, high quality Vodka.  I make my Bloody Mary with it.

Pyrat Pistol is great rum.

Canadian Whisky can be a great sipping drink for a good price.

Another outstanding liquor, if you don't mind dropping some cash on it, is Crown Royal Special Reserve.


That shit is unbelievably smooth.

Something else that can be fun/tasty is infusing liquors. Canning jars work great to experiment with. Liquor of your choice + flavoring agent of choice + a week or two = flavored liquor.

Whole coffee beans work really well with vodka or blanco tequila. Just toss a few in the bottle.

A whole vanilla bean makes your own vanilla vodka, which can then be mixed with whatever. Works well with rum, too.

Black pepper vodka makes a killer bloody mary.

My personal favorite, tho, is bacon-and-maple-syrup flavored bourbon. Great with pancakes.

You said you already have tequila, you'll just need a few more things for it.


1 shot of espresso, a little more than a shot of tequila, a little more than a shot of Kahlua, a little less than a shot of Bailey's

Either mix it in a glass with ice or chill it and strain it into a chilled martini glass.  It's called a Tijuana Speedball.

My personal favorite, tho, is bacon-and-maple-syrup flavored bourbon. Great with pancakes.
