is that the AMC engine?  same one in old CJ/MJs?

I don't think so.  The Chrysler flathead 6 that I'm thinking of was an antiquated thing, Google told me it was introduced in 1932 and continued in automotive service until '59.  It was also used as an industrial engine to power things like pumps up until the 1970's.

sounds just like the AMC 6.. lol

QuoteSometimes referred to as the 196 engine, this engine was originally designed by Nash in the 1930s as a flathead, and redesigned as an OHV engine in 1956. The flathead version was discontinued for 1956â€"1957, but reemerged in 1958 as the economy engine for the "new" Rambler American. When the engine was changed to an OHV configuration the water pump was moved from the left side of the engine (driven by a shaft extending from the back of the generator) to the front above the timing chain. When the flathead model was reintroduced it also received the new water pump. Equipped with such high quality parts as forged crankshafts and connecting rods, these engines earned a reputation for remarkable durability. The flathead, however, was prone to the typical flathead problem of overheating under sustained heavy load. This was from the hot exhaust traveling through the cylinder block to the exhaust manifold.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

though I like the motor in the Type C better ( because a V16 is just massively cool over a V12 in certain regards), the Type D just looks better in it's flowing lines...

DEAR GOD. The very pinnacle of my love affair with cars. It began with these two cars, and all of the Audi concept cars that followed. (I.E. the Rosemeyer, Nuvolari, AVUS Quattro)

What kind of motors do those old Power Wagons have?  I recall Chrysler's main engine for years, before the Hemi, was a flathead straight 6.  Is that what was under the Power Wagon hoods?

A straight six, typically a 230, though if I recall correctly some had a 251.

Here's a nifty link of someone who knows how to use one: http://mysite.verizon.net/kkull99/work.htm

They really don't build trucks like that anymore.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

Supercar.

And Auto Union/Audi is still around, they are just racing diesels now.

They sure don't.  Probably as much or more engineering goes into the cup holder location these days as goes into designing a utilitarian vehicle.

Exactly. The Four Rings of Auto Union stand for Audi, DKW, Horch, and Wanderer. They just let Audi becme the big name.

I've been around the vintage racecar industry for decades -- thus have sampled some of the great supercars over the years.

Here are two cars built upon "normal" chassis with more pedestrian underpinnings I'd love to have in my garage.

Mercury Cougar / Bordinat Cobra.  There was a coupe and convertible version built.  Great chassis and stunning looks.  Too bad Mercury only built two as "styling studies" and didn't actually put this into production...

Alfa Romeo B.A.T #9d -- "Berlinetta Aerodynamica Technica". One of the famous designer Franco Scaglione's masterpeices.  The original is multi-million dollars.  But that doesn't mean I can't build my own... ;D

My likings amongst older cars are more...um... quirky than dream.... yeah go ahead laugh....

but I've always been fond of the ol' PV Volvo...

...and similarly the Amazon...

And I know the old SAAB 96 is as ugly as a sock full of vomit, but I like em (the SAABs that is)..

Lancia Beta Monte Carlo (the ultimate rust-bucket)..

TVR Tamar..

Reliant Scimitar

Ford Granada Coupe (the European one)

Citroen Traction Avant

and.... the wackiest of em all.... the Citroen Ami  [laugh] (but I love it anyway  :))

Love those early Volvos as well.  My family owed one of those Citroen TAs.  Just before we left Argentina, dad bought one so that we could drive around the country visiting and saying goodbye to family and friends.  Previous to this, our only mode of familial transportation was a Lambretta scooter (but that's a whole different story).  The TA had a hole in the floorboards and burned oil like a 2-stroke.
VIVA LA EVOLUCION!!!

Howie

Owned an Amazon (known here as a 122) wagon and a Saab 2 stroke.  Enjoyed them both.
