Has anyone used one of these before?  Will it "discourage" the armadillo in my yard?

I don't know if an 80lb bow will kill an armadillo... I have never seen an armadillo though so no idea..

Do you have a .22 rifle?? If not go buy one (they are cheap) and pick up some low velocity rounds. They don't break the sound barrier and fired from a regular .22 rifle will be nearly silent. A sneeze or average conversation is louder.

Ask the squirrels in my yard, they never hear it coming.

Yeah...about that.  The SO is not too keen on the idea of a rifle...it's the ol' "if she is happy, I am happy" philosophy.  And I live in a subdivision so not too keen on it either to be truthful.

How is a cross bow safer than a rifle? One makes noise the other doesn't, they are both still lethal.

Well forget that shit then. How fast is an armadillo?

Get a hammer, shovel, axe, or any other weapon/zombie killing device and beat that little bastard to death.

I can guarantee that once it's dead, you will no longer be bothered by that particular armadillo.

The crossbow bolt is not as likely to penetrate a house wall and will not look as intimitading to wife/neighbors.

Anyway, 'dillos are pretty damn fast.  I was able to get about 20 feet from one a couple nights ago before it shot off into neighbors brush pile like a shot.  I always thought they would just roll up and play dead but apparently their first defense is to RUN!

Haha, I never figured they would be fast.

I guess give the crossbow a try. It's cheap and will probably lead to lots of shenanigans.

Just don't shoot yourself...be careful

be care full, last i heard dillos carry all kinds of diseases  that can be past on to humans. and a hurt/ wounded dillo is very dangerous. might i suggest a

granted its nowhere as fun as a crossbow but your less likely to have an accident

or get both once its traped then you can see if that crossbow will  penetrate and if so how many arrows it takes to kill it

i in no way endorse or encourage the harm of any living animal, pest, rodent or pet... except for kittens... kittens are evil [evil] hahahaha
it is so much easier to get forgiveness then it will ever be to get permission.

They run but don't stay away...my yard is starting to look like a excavation site.

Have done quite a bit of reading on the varmin and have read that they can carry leprosy and the such...I plan on taking precautions once they are down and out but thanks for the head's up.

Also read that they are not easily trapped since they will not be baited by food they don't have to dig for (mole crickets), actually have seen people place fencing to "guide" dillo's into traps.  That seems like a whole lot more work than "sending them to a better place"

Had one very similar, plenty of power but wildly innaccurate, built some custom bolts with heavier tips and that improved it a bit.

If you are looking to annoy the armadillo so that it decides to go live somewhere else, this might be a decent tool.  If you are looking to dispatch said creature, its not going to happen with that setup.

If the latter is what you seek, buy a Gamo pellet rifle.  One cock, 1200 fps.  Make sure you have a good backstop.

I think it's safe to assume that at this point.

Just buy a damn 12 gauge and send that bastard to another dimension in tiny bits.

it won't be that loud  [roll]
