Battery tender for 696?

This winter is starting too cold for me to ride enough to keep the bike happy.  I want to install a wire so I can connect a battery tender during the longer breaks.  Is there a 'how to' for installing such a connector?  Is there a part number, or manufacturer of the connector?

Are you sure it didn't come with one installed?  Mine did and I gather several dealers install the cable for a battery tender when they set the bike up.  Otherwise, I think the general recommendation (and certainly mine) would be a battery tender.  It'll come with a connection for the battery, which involves removing the panels, the tank and then connecting the cable to the batt.  Was a 5 minute job on my harley.  Not so much on these.  :)

Bummer... then you have to remove the tank to get to the battery.  It's not terribly hard, just lots of little screws/bolts.  A little time consuming.

Where can I find instructions?  I suppose I could just start taking off parts, but I would rather not mess with a part that isn't going to be in the way.  And there always seems to be a fastener which isn't obvious.

About the pigtail:  How long?  I've found one that is two feet, which seems long enough.  Is it?  Is there a DP pigtail?   ;D

Some people have been saying on the newer bikes there a Ducati specific battery charger in the tool tray.
If you still don't have that (don't confuse the DDA plug)

then search the tech section. there are a few copies of the instructions in there

I just went thru this process of accessing the battery on my M696 3 times in the last 2 days for various reasons.  In spite of what others say, it is a PITA job with lots of small screws, spacers, and clips to fall off and roll away.  There is a trick to removing the side panels.  There is a hidden bolt under the seat and when all is free, prying up and raising the tank is still not easy.  I think I have the drill down.  If you run into a problem, email me direct at a.baba@mindspring.com

My bike didn't come with the tender plug either (M1100 09). Apparently its your dealers decision if he will install it or not.

I already had a C-Tek charger so which I had just purchased before upgrading so I just installed it myself no real issue and it works a treat. I even have the cigarette lighter plug for it to charge iphone when on the move so its a handy thing to have.

My 2009 696 came with one installed. Mine is on the left side, near the charcoal canister.

The fused rat/pigtail connecter should come with the Battery Tender...

I also installed a Powerlet BMW-style socket kit on my bike (mounts to frame). I use it for the Battery Tender cable when bike's in garage and the Gerbings heated vest plug when riding.  IMO, safer, and easier to use, and more flexible apps than the 'tail....
