Went out for a ride with a buddy of mine today in the hill country outside of Austin. We didn't have a lot of time so we kept is pretty close to town. Here is us getting onto Hamilton Pool Road when I had a bit of a pucker moment. Deer Near Miss

Digging Hamilton Pool Road!! ![waytogo](http://ducatimonsterforum.org/Smileys/classic/waytogo.gif) Lived in Austin all during the 70s when I raced bicycles and supposedly went to UT! ![laughingdp](http://ducatimonsterforum.org/Smileys/classic/laughdmf.gif) Would do a bike training ride during the morning and dupe the same ride that afternoon or before dark on the '78 SR500, '78 Guzzi 850 LeMans or the '80 CB750F. Back in the good old days when the 620 loop around the lake was just a little 2 lane country road and the hill up 2222 was called the "Wall". The good bicycle training routes were also great scooter rides! [moto] The old state road course championship loop was called the "Buda loop" and the first race of the year was always La Primavera in March around the high school off Bee Caves 2244 I think it was in West Lake Hills. Good times!! Oh... by the way, glad you missed the deer! ![waytogo](http://ducatimonsterforum.org/Smileys/classic/waytogo.gif)

Wow!
that was actually a really great clip of how fast it can happen and how it would be almost impossible to react in time.
did you stop and buy a lottery ticket on the way home?

YES : All give a little thanks to the deer hunters, Someone might have just plugged the deer with your number on it. Can You imagine what it would be like if some "folks" had their way about stopping the hunt? ![bow down](http://ducatimonsterforum.org/Smileys/classic/bow_down.gif)

I really don't like hunting, but every year I try to find someone that will take me out so I can kill a few of those 200lb rats. Around here, they're more dangerous than other drivers. About as intelligent though ![Smiley](http://ducatimonsterforum.org/Smileys/classic/smiley.gif)

Great clip.
The closest one I've ever had with a deer was on my Harley while doing 60 mph. While traveling a farm to market road that was elevated quite a bit (through a flood area the road was built on kind of a levy with very steep banks). I never even knew the deer was there till it hit pavement. The deer shot out in front of me and I missed it by about 3 feet. Maybe it didn't realize it had already crossed my path but when it got just past my line of travel, it decided to try and turn and outrun me. As I went by, I could have reached out and slapped it on the rump. I remember that I could hear it's hooves sliding and clicking on the pavement as it tried to gain grip.
Then once while on my Versys, I was traveling on the road that leads to my camphouse in the woods. The road is barely wide enough to be 2 lanes with no divider stripping. The road ditch starts just off the pavement with thick trees and brush just past the ditch. I was leaving my place late in the evening with the sun flashing through the trees kinda like a strobe light. Because of the flashing of sunlight, I didn't see a deer that was grazing in the ditch. As I got close, it decided to run along the ditch to escape the machine that was chasing it (that would be me and my Versys). Luckily, it found a gap in the brush and cut off to the woods instead of crossing the road. If it had chosed the path across the road, I never would known what happened.

Duuuude! Good video though =)
One of my riding buds hit one last October. 80mph, split it in half, and managed to keep the bike upright! $3000 worth of damage to his cherry FZ1 (and ruined leathers... I assume from the blood, but maybe some internal damage). There was blood and fur in the tire beads!

Forgot to mention that this is what a deer did (indirectly) to my roommate's bike last fall. They're like the pigeons of the woodland areas. Filthy rats. ![](http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y239/Jervisaurus/Bikes/DSC01383.jpg) ![](http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y239/Jervisaurus/Bikes/DSC01386.jpg)
