I did my first oil change on my 696 last night and realized I didn't do the screen. So today I drained again and did it. Didn't have time to go all the way back to dealer for more oil so I just went to local auto store an got Mobil 1 4T synth which I realized was $10/qt vs $18/qt for the Motul I originally had.  Just wondering what makes the Motul oil worth an additional $8?

AFAIK the 4t is.... but out here, the auto store dont sell bike oil, so thats why I questioned it.... plus, we get a shit ton of people asking if car oil will work simply because it's cheaper.

The Moblil 1 is less likley to cause the APTC clutch in your bike to slip.  I had a problem with motule causing clutch slip on my 620.  As long as you are using the the 4T bike oil all should be good.

cool, I'll spend some time reading that thread you reference buckethead.  I did try to drain as much of the motul out as I could before putting the Mobil 1 in.  there shouldn't be an issue with the two of them mixing in there right?

OH, and where can I order crush washers for the 696 online?  The seem a little hard to find.

I'd wager your local dealer probably has them.

Otherwise, I'd call up Ducati Omaha or Ducati Seattle and see what they can do for you.

The crush washers piss me off.  I don't have a local dealer, and I'm trying to get an oil change done.  Easy enough to order the filters... but finding crush washers is a pregnant dog.  I've seen guides suggesting reusing the crush washers if they aren't damaged, and if they are, lapping them on a mirror to recondition them.

Why do they piss you off?   Huh?

I'd use them again.

Because my truck doesn't need em... why should my bike?  Just one more thing to think about during a simple task like changing oil.

Your truck uses a sealing device of some type.

Is the oil pan on your truck aluminum?

You do realize they spec a crush washer  to protect your cases...

not just to make your life difficult...right?

I would have liked to see a press-fit steel insert for the oil drain plug like my truck has in it's aluminum pan.  Just sayin.
