Is there any reason my stator would die?

For $500 I can get a new one +labor. I'm not really interested in having another one fail on me.

Ideas?

A 2009?  Not still under warranty?  Are you sure the stator is dead?  How did you do the diagnosis?

I took it to a dealership - they are also the ones that told me it wasn't under warranty anymore.

The battery kept dieing AKA not charging.

Cross reference part numbers, I would check on any 2v stator that is 3 phase.

Looks like we have the same problem.  09 696 just out of warranty, BUT we are in the process of having the original owners extended warranty transferred over to my wife's name.

Battery not charging progressively getting worse.  Original owner replaced battery in order to sell the bike.  Lasted from 383 miles to about 2000 miles (current).  Battery dead, I replaced battery with Yuasa YT12B-BS, installed yesterday, rode the bike this morning short ride, then wife rode 30 miles parked for couple of hours, ride home, engine light comes on and battery too low to start bike.

I am trying to test stator output with voltmeter by black to ground and positive to each yellow wire from stator.  Between 4 and 5 volts at 2000rpm and 11-12 volts at 6000rpm?

... and according to the parts fiche, the stator cover comes off pretty easy- maybe a new gasket but maybe not, unbolt and install new stator- the biggest cost from Ducati is the part which they want $500+ for...

Found a microfiche, showed that same part number you posted, pulled it up, shows for Ducati 620.  So, I do another search on ebay for 620, found a stator, will take a chance on that one.  Mine is just not putting out the voltage stated in the service manual: 27v +-10v @2000rpm and 78v +-10 @ 6000rpm.  Two of my windings gets the lower voltage, but none get over 54 at 6000rpm.

Thanks for those links 2-Skinny.  I'm going in, betting the case cover goes on with the liquid gasket seal, which I have.

I know, Ducati needs to be informed of this thru warranty fix, but they are closed till tuesday, (plus 3 week backlog on service).  I am on pretty good info terms with the service manager at my local dealer (180 miles), so will touch base with them anyway.

Check the voltage regular first, it's a bit cheaper and easy to install.

I have another RR, but it did not help.  My stator is not putting out the required AC volts, at least according to my voltmeter.

I bought a stator from a 620 that was supposed to be in good working order as a spare for my recently sold S2R800. I can let it go for much much more cheep cheep than $500, which is ridonkulous.
