I'm thinking about taking a roadtrip to California this summer, but I've seen a couple of comments about a law relating to aftermarket exhausts. Will I get busted with my loud-ass pipes?

I don'tive in Pinkoville, but I would guess unless you are being overly obnoxious, you will be fine.
Woohoohoohoo! Two personal records! For breath holding and number of sharks shot in the face.

Overall, no problems but.............in certain areas (i.e. nicer cities with few bikes or too many) it could be an issue but i wouldn't worry about it  [thumbsup]
Everytime I'm on two wheels, the streets part, heavens open, and hearts pound

The heart pounding is true, at least...

The law will only affect 2013 model year and newer bikes.  I guess the Oakland police will be keeping their bikes a little longer

You're fine. Unless you go to rider-heavy areas where they're also doing targeted enforcement.  There are a couple of places in Northern California I don't generally ride during the summer months.

I'd love a law that just took out straight pipers, like target practice!
2003 620ie red, cored stock pipes, Hit -Air jacket, nice deriere.

If that was a problem Bacon Junkie and I would have had the CHP descending on us from all over the county last weekend.  [evil]

Don't be skerd.

I find it disturbing that you're imagining me in a sauna, never mind the teletubbie aspect of it

I live near the rainbow colored heart of Pinkoville [roll] and I've never had any issues even with the uber-loud contis on my bike.

The new law is only for newer bikes, and as far as the existing laws they are only targeting straight-pipe Harleys in heavily populated (read as: Touristed) areas.

I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

The only place in CA that will definitely kick you out for loud pipes is the racetrack at Laguna Seca  [roll]

I haven't decided when, but I probably won't make the DIMBY. I'll be heading for Santa Maria - sister lives there. I'm coming from Utah.

The nice areas along the coast where the rich people live  [wine]  (Monterrey, Newport beach, etc..). My brother-in-law lives in Huntington beach who rides, and says the highways and hills are heavily policed and tickets are frequently given for all loud exhausts. There are noise level laws already in place.

I've lived in Huntington Beach for 25 years and have ridden everywhere around here. I also work with a bunch of guys who give out tickets. Your bro-in-law is exaggerating.
