I have been looking and looking and I cant find a fuel pump on this bike. The fuel lines go from the gravity fuel petcock "which I have been thinking of 86ing" to this.

I sure does not look like a gravity pump to me, looks more like a fuel filter of some kind but again Im no expert.
Then the lines go to the carbs which I just pulled off to clean and install a new jetkit.

That looks like a pressure regulator...I guess it could be a vacuum pump. It isn't a Ducati stock item

What do you mean by "gravity petcock" .

Was that part held on with the tank hinge bolt?

What kind of bike?

This part was under the carbs.

Isn't the petcock under the tank hinge? I thought I saw a few guys call it a gravity feed petcock? Thats still there.

Its a 98 M750

Hmmm...

How many lines were connected and to where?

There's no 5 sided aluminum pump on the right side of the engine mounted to the frame?

You're thinking vacuum petcock...not gravity, and that is under the hinge.

Gonna try and explain this so please bear with me.

First no there is no fuel pump on this bike. I have looked and looked. I know exactly what it looks like from the manual and it does not exist.

This part has an arrow stamped on the single inlet side with the arrow going in. This hose was going into the engine tube.

On the other side with 2 inlets there is a stamp with the letter P and this was connected to the right side of the petcock "standing on the clutch side of the bike looking back at the bike"

The other outlet was stamped with an arrow facing out. Which was just a vented hose.

This bike came to me 2nd hand and I have been trying to mull things over and get things right. But it just seems like there is another surprise every turn I take.  :)

That appears very similar to the vacuum petcock on my '99 M750.  Mine was held in place like dp said with one of the tank hinge bolts ~

Here is the image of the petcock under the tank!

So why in the world would someone install 2 petcocks?  Is there a reasonable reason of why? And then why would the PO remove the fuel pump?

Man without a forum like this I dont know what I would do. thanks so much for all your guys help and insight.  Like I said earlier, there seems to be something up with this bike every turn I take.

Does the bike run?

How does fuel get to the carbs from the petcock?

Yeah the bike ran all summer long last year.
I took the carbs out to do some cleaning and install a jet kit.

Man as far as I know gas went form the tank/filter/petcock/2nd petcock?/carbs.

Serious thats the way the thing ran.  It was running a bit rough at the end of the summer so that is why I thought she needed a bit of cleaning....I actually do have a pump on the way from CA cycleworks because I thought it was just strange not to have one installed.  My bike is an enigma!

In your other post you said one line went to the petcock, one went to the "engine tube", and one went nowhere.

I'm confused. ;D

Im confusing myself while confusing you  [laugh]

I am just glad I took pictures before I started ripping everything apart. I will go out and piece it together and double check what I am trying to say....Because your right. What I am saying cant work. There was nothing going to the carbs LOL

I will update it more tomorrow. If I go out there tonight. I will be up half the night thinking about it and stewing.

Actually it is a fuel pump, it operates off of Crank case pressure from the forces of the piston going up and down. These types of pumps are used on things like the Evinrude Johnson 30 and 55 HP outboard engine and Golf carts like a Columbia or an EZGO. Here's a link.
