New boots yesterday...cooked said boots today. Looking for a heat shield to prevent this in the future. Spark midpipe as can be seen in the picture below. I'd really like to ditch the passenger pegs, but I can't afford $300 for new boots everyday. Not a fan of carbon fiber...even though you can see a bit left over from the PO. Thanks in advance!

I have the same bike, same exhaust, and the same problem.  I installed something very similar to this http://www.monsterparts.com/pc/ZU-PIPEGUARD/Bodywork-Carbon/ZU-PIPEGUARD.html   except it was made by Leo Vince.  Don't get me wrong, the bike looked better without the extra heat shield, but I was tired of trying to remove the melted plastic from the pipe.

I had a header on my dual sport coated by Jet Hot with their thermal barrier "extreme silver" - looks nice and made a very noticeable difference on how hot the outside of the pipe got.  I rarely if ever have direct contact between my boot and pipe, but its only maybe 15mm away from my ankle and tended to make my right ankle very hot as stock.  My ankle stays cool with the coated header.

When you fire the dual sport up again, will you stick your boot on it and see if it melts? Pleeze?!? Just kidding. I've been thinking about ceramic coatings (there's a place in VA that does it), but how much do they really decrease the temperature?

 Now this is an interesting possibility. I need to get up your way and see a riding friend of mine. Maybe I can make a weekend out of it...ride, fabricate, ride...sounds very tempting!

I did the same thing on my track bike with some roofing flash squares and some heat tape for to protect my heels on the high mount D&D up-pipes with the Cycle Cat rear sets on the track bike...

maybe it is possible to attach to the peg stand from the backside using the bolt holes for the rear brake master cylinder and some longer bolts?

Check out http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/ms21919clamps.php they sell clamps. I got some to lower my headlight.

Get a couple, remove the rubber (unless you really like the smell), and use them to clamp the shield to the pipe. It'll work better with a spacer between the clamp and the shield.
