So having the morning coffee...flipping between CNN and Fox...

I now deduce (based on reporting/coverage) that Japan is no longer a news item....

the reactors are probably fixed and life there has probably returned to a degree of normalcy to the extent that no further coverage is required

radioactivity spread and contamination issues have evaporated

However I now understand the greatest current threat to mankind and the planet

is in Libya and the news coverage about this deadly planetary threat must run continuously 24x7

Unscientific based on their website:

BBC: Lead = Japan, Libya = 2nd
FOX: Lead = Libya, Japan = 3rd
CNN: Lead = Japan, Libya = 2nd
NPR: Lead = Japan, Libya = 2nd
ABC: Lead = Japan, Libya = Not on the front page.

Looks like Japan is still leading the (web) news.

Japan was so three weeks ago.

I was just thinking about this while I got ready for work.

There was a 25 year old mom missing for a week in Southern Ohio, they found her last night in a church septic tank. First thing out of the anchor's mouth; "A story we brought to you first".  Who gives a make the beast with two backs that you broke the story first there is a mother of 3 kids dead and stuffed in a septic tank.

Oh yes the media's Human "Dung Beetles"

that make a feast out of life's shit...

"we found this turd of tragedy first!!!  stay tuned we are going to ask her daughter if she's upset that her mother was strangled with her own entrails"

I guess it should be no surprise...they pander to everyone's ghoulish morbidity....like traffic jams caused by accident rubber-neckers looking for the gore on the side of the road....I always lay on the horn and keep it down when someone slows or stops to stare

or shotgun....

unfortunately I just got sucked into wanting to know what was going on in Japan

and how far-reaching the contamination is projected to spread...

so I stayed in front of the TV for too long...fully believing they would switch over to the news in the PacRim

before realizing as Speedbag put it that "Japan was so 3 weeks ago"

Very accurate description.

We as mankind have evolved a good deal.  But a good car wreck, murdered mom, scenes of looting, etc. will bring us right back to the days of throwing Christians to the lions.  And the "news media", they know what sells.

People are and that's why we have the news we have now.

And as far as the actual news, don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

I'm sticking with Mr. Judge on this one.

That Idiocracy video cracks me up! [laugh] Funny, my wife and I have had a similar discussion many times. :P

The news is what it is. I have to watch (and read on line) several news programs to feel like I have gotten most (never all) of the story. It's a business and they are selling ads just like magazines and newspapers. That won't ever change.
I plan to list the Federal Gov't. as a dependent on my next 1040 tax filing!

I have flying honey badgers and I'm not afraid to use them!

The fact that flame throwers exist is proof that someone somewhere said "I'd sure like to set those people over there on fire but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

CONFIDENCE: the feeling you have right before you understand the situation.

Statler

It's scary listening to stuff on local tv news that is truly just made up about the juvenile cases I do.    I know fact checking is difficult with a confidential system, but every time it appears they truly just invent shit to say.  No info?  just wing it.

It's still buy a flounder a drink month

I don't have a TV. I listen to the radio for most of my news.  NPR and the BBC only. I do read CNN and the 2 local newspapers online. I see tv sometimes and wonder who people can stand it.
