I was just thinking about this while I got ready for work.

There was a 25 year old mom missing for a week in Southern Ohio, they found her last night in a church septic tank. First thing out of the anchor's mouth; "A story we brought to you first".  Who gives a make the beast with two backs that you broke the story first there is a mother of 3 kids dead and stuffed in a septic tank.

It's scary listening to stuff on local tv news that is truly just made up about the juvenile cases I do.    I know fact checking is difficult with a confidential system, but every time it appears they truly just invent shit to say.  No info?  just wing it.

Again, don't let the facts get in the way of a good story..................

I don't have a TV. I listen to the radio for most of my news.  NPR and the BBC only. I do read CNN and the 2 local newspapers online. I see tv sometimes and wonder who people can stand it.

same here. haven't had TV service since 2003. dont miss it a bit.
If you drive the nicest car in the neighborhood, work in a cash business, and don't pay taxes, you're either a preacher or a drug dealer...

A lot of the news is just disaster porn. It does not help advance understanding or inform. It tends to be exploitative.

I like the brit paper The Guardian and NPR, as imperfect as they are.

RAT900

^^^ Disaster Porn....I like that ...accurate....this is at best "infotainment" it is not informative...

information makes most folks eyes glaze over after 30 milliseconds and they are on their way to the Kardashians' latest crisis or some other schadenfreude blasted at them from the screen

now this is not to say that lies slander libel and propaganda have not gone on for centuries in the print or written media...19th Century Yellow Journalism and all that....Remember the Maine etc etc

I just lament that the communications tools we have created are making us dumber rather than smarter

guess it is like fire...

you can cook and warm yourself with it and build a civilization upon its potentials....

and you can also use it to burn down a civilization
This is an insult to the Pez community
