Rant: How come people are douches when you're trying to sell something?

How many times when selling a moto (or anything else, for that matter) using a classified ad have you had someone call you up and say (after reducing the price to get the deal moving, no less) "let me (place whatever action here) and I will call you back to pick up the bike tonight" then never hear from them?

If your significant other said no, then call me back and say you're no longer interested, K?

And if he calls back today, the deal I had negotiated yesterday is no longer on the table.

I like the fact that you don't pay to advertise things you want to get rid of on Craig's list, but I hate the douchiness that can ensue. How 'boot responding to an email about your item, then you get spam about joining some stupid other thing that promises you VAST riches with little work?

Just need to get the KZ out of the garage, and I am not asking that much for it and a BOATLOAD of parts. Why can't people be not so douchey?

another scenario:

I had a camera lens listed on CL for $200 (a fair market price based on my research - eBay, CL, used camera stuff site, etc.).

I get an offer for something like $120 + a $25 Best Buy gift card.  ???

bunnyman666

Ouch.

I got the following offer for my KZ:

A waterslide for a pool and a JBL theatre sub box. Hmmmmm, me thinks the sub box AND waterslide are HOT.

Yes, people can't read when you say "reasonable offers will be entertained".

I was trying to sell a few bikes and I got an email that just made me angry.  Someone just basicly asked up front without even having a discussion, "what is the lowest you'll accept?"  I just asked him what's the Highest he's willing to pay?  I never heard back.

I just couldn't take all the assholes calling me, emailing me and visiting me which all end up as a waste of time after they say they going to buy the bike.  I just put the bikes on consignment and I'm happy to pay someone else to deal with this bullshit.

well technically you could purchase $80 worth of items that were on sale for 65% off at Best Buy

remember if you are using a "free" website to post like craigslist, it shows that you are being cheap at the same time too, so its the nature of the beast you have to deal with cheap people since you are using a site that is asking equally as much in return.

this is what you have to do so that you don't have to give a commission of 20-30% to someone else to put it on consignment.  or do that and avoid the headaches but lose some money in the process.

I find it disturbing that you're imagining me in a sauna, never mind the teletubbie aspect of it

This is why I tend to trade more often than not (assuming I'm parting with some motorized toy to get another).

I'll take the relative cornholing happily, just to put the selling burden on someone else. I have more important things to do than deal with the idiots.

I don't care if I am being lowballed, 'cos after all- I am being cheap, as well.

Polite low-balling is fine with me- just don't be a douche, that's all. Call me back if you decide to back out after making a tentative deal so I can go about other plans.

This is a project bike, after all. Translation: nowhere NEAR ready to ride. I am taking what I can get to get it out of my hair at this point. No shoppe will do a consignment on this thing!!! Like I said, it's the dumb headaches and spam that I don't like.

I'm always willing to trade for stuff that isn't HOT. What the one dude was trying to trade me was WAAAAAAAAAAY more valuable than what I have. That's a red flag.

Thanks for the well-wishes, mate.

I got an email from some dude that wanted more pics. ?????

What else could I possibly post?!?

If this weren't a "project bike" (a.k.a. One man's Trash...), it would be on consignment yesterday.

Last night a kid came in that made me laugh- he honestly thinks that he will get it running quickly. The bike has electrical ghosts (theme here?) that would cook the main fuse seconds after the bike would get fully started. I stripped out the ENTIRE wiring harness. I actually was trying as hard as I could to talk the kid OUT of the sale, as I could just tell he was in over his head on this.

I put in the ad that the bike was nowhere near ready-to-ride!!!!

People are MAROONS some times...

My favorite is when people call about something that you are selling, and they offer you a lower price without ever having seen the item.  HOW DO THEY THINK IT'S WORTH LESS?  Like how do they know it's not worth more than what I am asking for?  Might it not be priced to sell quick (which is how I usually do it because I hate the bargaining thing) and therefore they should just jump at it if they are seriously interested?
