I'm just an average earner, but I have imagined that $50,000 could easily be spent on modifying a Monster.

Carbon fiber wheels......

aluminum frame......

and the list goes on.

11' M796, SC project GP slip-ons, 1100DS cams, BMC air filter with modified airbox cover, asv levers, 14t front sprocket

I've not done so yet, but I've almost convinced myself that aftermarket triples are a "reasonable investment" because they'd have a place for the pin on a triple-tree front-stand.

Most of the mods here are bolt-on.  For the most part I don't see the improvement.  Just swapping parts for stock parts at great expense.  There are only a select few who customize and their rides are the best of all.

Plus 1. Couldnt agree more.
2001 Supersport 900 Yellow!!! (she's just so much fun)
2000 Monster 750 Carb Dark!!! (Sold and still full of regrets)

Desert Dust

I disagree.......

For example, CRG bar-end, lane-split mirrors with sliders

+ less weight
+ better vision
+ easy to lane-split
+ much better looking
+ less wind resistance
+ crash protection
+ easier to tuck in next to my car in the garage

Yes, some mods are just for appearance, but many also provide benefits.

My 98' M900 is the 12th motorcycle I have owned, and the only one I have extensively modified.
One could argue that some of the mods are frivolous, while some are beneficial...to safer, faster, better handling Monster.
My response to whomever would question a particular mod???

+ 1  on personal preferences

Right.  +1 on personal preferences.  That's what I was saying, my personal preference.

My monster came with lane-splitters.  Took them off.  At my height I had to take my eyes off the road in front of me to get a glimpse of what was behind.

The red anodized alternator cover didn't match the engine case or the frame paint.  Gone.  The stock one manages to hold the O-ring in place just as well and it matches the engine case.

The STM slave didn't match anything after I removed the alternator cover.  Gone.  The stock one manages to push the clutch rod just the same and it matches the engine case.

To me changes like the clutch slave add urban ugliness to the bike.  Aside from some of the ladies and perhaps some with physical handicapps that prevent them from using the stock slave configuration I just don't see the need for it.

I'm all for mods to adjust ergonomics, true performance or to make the bike fit your riding style.  I'm just say'in to me I don't go for the looks of the bikes full of bolt-on bling.

If I didn't care about aesthetics, I wouldn't own a Monster.  I'd have a Honda something or other and save myself a horrendous amount of headaches
