Why would you use a plate puller?   ???

Why?

Because "Yellow Ducati" won't stand up in court and there's not a single man or woman in the NYPD with enough "give a shit" to bother to look at your headstock to put the VIN on a parking ticket.
We pay for our parking with CC cards that give you a little receipt to put in your window.  On bikes, they either blow off or get stolen.  Easier to remove your plate and walk away.

I love the disclaimer

You will 100% get your bike towed if you live in a motorcycle unfriendly city like NYC. Or even a friendly city, the cop might think its stolen. You are better off covering your bike.

Imagine this scenario:  I pull up to my Dr's office on Third Avenue and park legally.  I buy a ticket.  Knowing that it will either blow off, get stolen, or not get noticed by NY's finest if I tuck it under my seat cowl so only a bit of it is visible, I put said ticket in my wallet.  Being a little bit early for my Dr's appt. I go next door to get a bottle of water.  Coming out of the store, I see a patrolman about to write a ticket.  I walk across the street, explain the situation and show him my ticket.   You know what he says to me?  "The best thing to do is to remove your plate."  He walks away.

I go to my Dr appt.  Coming out, I have a ticket.  I see the patrolwoman up the street.  I take my receipt, and show it to her.  You know what she says to me?  "You should have just taken your plate,"  and proceeds to tell me she can't void the ticket, to just send the ticket in, along with the receipt, and write, in the "Other" box on the back of the ticket for explanations, "Motorcycle."

What's a guy to do?  ??? ??? ???

I take my plate.

I generally ALWAYS park legally, unless there isn't a space and I'll park on the sidewalk until one is. (Which, btw, I was advised to do by one of NY's finest, as long as I covered my bike or TOOK MY PLATE) I cover my bike when I'm home. When I'm out and about, it's too time consuming to cover my bike every time I stop.

Yes, NYC is a motorcycle unfriendly city and people are working on changing that.  But in my short experience here, I've found the NYPD to be the most "regular Joe's" of any LEO's I've ever had the, uh, opportunity, to interact with.  They have a job to do.  They know the MC parking situation sucks, and they seem all too happy to accept even the slightest effort on your part to thwart their efforts as acknowledgment of that fact.  [laugh]

Howie

Flip side of this is if they do go through the work you will get three tickets instead of one or they might (and have) tow or truck away your bike or scooter, and they are not gentle.  Ever see a bike hanging off the back of a city tow truck?  It ain't pretty.  I would rather get the ticket

This plate puller thing is interesting...in my town people are pretty good about bike parking...  1 paid recipt per parking spot so bikes can fit 4 in a spot on 1 recipt, if youve got minutes left, you stick your recipt on the bike next to you, etc.  Ive never had someone steal my recipt or have it blow off..  I usually just tuck half of it under the seat cowl or the gascap key cover.  I can imagine pulling the plate getting you into trouble here...  (that and I would be worried about someone else pulling my plate if I left it on the bike.)

In other news!  Got my recipt from IMA special parts.  Hopefully that means the stuff is in from across the pond and will ship out today!  MOD2evo full triple trees and no-rise clipons!  (sorry...cant link to pictures because IMA uses .php instead of normal images)

Rear tire.

My rear tire picked up a nail .. second nail, this time it punctured near the side of the tire. The damn nail didn't go in straight and perpendicular ... but at an angle, slightly sideway. I plugged it, but a couple of days later while lubing the chain I noticed there's a bulge near the plugged hole. Time for a new tire.

The local dealer doesn't have pirelli angel in their stock so I called a dealer in another city, fortunatelly they have it in stock. Have them sent it to my local dealer and I will go there tomorrow.

Tire has only 3500km and already has to be replaced [bang]

A left side air deflector for my M1100S, it really cleans up the left side of the motor as the carbon box is gone! When I saw that there was free shipping with orders over 100 bucks I added a nice little bill it red oil filler plug and a set of shinny clutch springs with red caps and ti screws! Now I have to decide on which pressure plate and holey cover to get!
