I was looking at the schematics for where that thing could've come from - geez good luck.  There's a bunch of little bearing units.  It actually reminded me of the seals on the Showas, but it's way too small.  And how the heck would one of those get into there.

I'd try looking at the shift shaft seal first to see if it's loose or working itself out. That could be done without taking anything apart. Then there's a bigger seal similar to it in the clutch cover where the crankshaft end is supported.

Then there's probably three types in the crankcase at various spots but that may require splitting the cases.

It was from a seal around/by a valve.
