Screwed up... time for Rearsets???
«

I've stripped the bolt hole in my 696's left side stock rearset where the pivot bolt goes for the shift lever.
It's stripped bad. I've tried the JB Weld trick, but so far, no luck. I'm wondering if I should just go to the rearsets that I really want, like the woodcrafts or metaltech, or if anyone has a better idea? I suppose I could also just scrap the stock shift lever and go with a GP Style shifter. Just trying to figure out what all my options are. I've got a track day in about 1 week, so whatever, I do, I need to do it quickly.

A GP shifter will probably be the easiest solution if that suits your preference, and it can carry over even if you do end up getting new rearsets.

good point. My only worry is having to learn a new shift pattern and then keeping it straight in my head when I move to/from my other two bikes with standard shift patters.

You could use a thread insert. You would just need to drill out the hole larger, and tap it for the larger thread. Thread it in and tap down the locks. They are very easy to use.

I did do that....because I kept spinning my bike around in parking spots on the kickstand and ended up fixing it with a Timesert and never made that mistake ever again!

The timeserts look great and I've bookmarked them for future use. I decided just to go with woodcraft rearsets, since that's what I ultimately want anyway, but I may timesert the OEM one and keep as a backup. Hopefully my woodcrafts get here in time for me to install for my trackday next weekend.
