I've been to NYC and I've been to DC.

I know the places you're showing me, but I've never seen them in that way.

Well done.  applause

Also: I'm surprised they let you that close to the White House. Or did you just reach your arm thru the fence?  popcorn

I did the NY trip a couple of summers ago.. not on a motorcycle unfortunately.. but flew to NYC then rented a car, drove down to DC, then back up to Boston, then over to Niagara Falls which was beyond incredible, especially looking up from the Maid of the Mist. Then drove to Cooperstown to see Rickey Henderson inducted into the HOF. From there back to NYC & flew back home to Cali. It was 10 days of awesomeness.

But you did inspire me, & again unfortunately it won't be on a motorcycle, but Labor Day week I'm roadtripping it to Yellowstone & over to South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore. Smiley

And for the WhiteHouse.. I know people. Obama is a friend of mine on couchsurfing.org.

Not sure if your looking for a good ride in the car but this route outside of Yellowstone will take you to 10,00 feet and through a nice path.

doing the cabot trail in the next few days

make the beast with two backs YES!!!

Done it several times. Get your poutin fix and drink lots o' Keith's for me.  waytogo

Paging Markus to the DTM thread...

make the beast with two backs the 1, at least that far north. It's 2 lanes through every podunk bullshit town between Calais and Key West.

Head west on Rt 9 to Bangor (55 (75!) mph sweepers!) and then go from there.

Honestly, I-95 from Bangor to Augusta is not that bad.

If you REALLY have your heart set on Rt 1, pick it up in Bucksport, just south of Bangor. You'll get to see the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory and then continue to make your way south.

fantastic pictures Dan.

enjoy the cabot trail and I hope you post some pics from it, cause if your pics so far are any indication, you will do a great job of capturing the essence of it.

THIS.

DTM, there will be no "banzai back to jersey" if you take the [east coast] 1.

What you'll have is plenty of slow moving traffic and a plethora of red lights.

Heed the wisdom of Buckethead!

yes rt 9 from Calais to Bangor, if you want to make good time. it's kinda fun at speeds that aren't posted.
there's another road from Princeton to Milford thats dirt all the way 70mi or so, thats a blast also. (not recommended tho
logging trucks)
rt 6 from Vanceboro to Lincoln, rt 155 Lincoln to Bradford, rt 221 Bradford to rt 15 Glenburn. rt 15 to Bangor.
all good riding roads in various conditions. some have heavy logging traffic.

I was stuck at my farm house in east TX for the last two days waiting for the AC repair man to show up. It was only 102-103 outside and 95+ inside. Brrrrr... bang head laughingdp Anyway, I was stuck watching the Weather Channel for hours on end and I wish all my DMF friends on the east coast all the best. Sounds like hurricane Irene is going to kick your ass! Hope Dan The Man and everyone else makes it out OK. Sounds really bad. Everyone please take care, make emergency plans and don't take it as a joke. It isn't. Angry

Waaay too many posts without any hint of windchimes.  Angry

So, the only way to repent is to get video of the chimes blowing sideways in the hurricane.

Just say'n.

I'm kinda sorta kidding...

Stay safe, DTM.
