Schooled as an architect, did that for a while. Designed and built custom furniture until Monday, now I have a lot of free time on my hands.

work would be constant though...

I should take a hint, I have worked for two high-end design build firms that have gone down the tubes, why should it be any different if I gave it a shot...

Clearly, you make companies go out of business.

you could always become a mortician?  people are always dyin to get into a funeral home....

My father got me a job in a funeral home when i was 19.  it paid 3.50 more than minimum so i didn't complain at all.  Quite the desensitizing experience but one I'll never forget.

I work as an engineer for the world's largest manufacturer of precision investment castings in Portland, Oregon.  I won't bore you with the details of investment casting - it's basically the ancient art of casting lost wax molds that was invented by the ancient Egyptians and Chinese.  We've just perfected it :)

It's been a great career over two decades.  I have gotten to work on precision castings with the most advanced metallurgical alloys for aerospace, aviation, medical prosthetics, power generation, military and civilian applications, and, drum roll please:  Formula One!  Woo-hoo!

Some of my clients have been: Pratt and Whitney, General Electric, Rolls-Royce Aero Engines, Snecma, Boeing, Lockheed, Mitsubishi, Renault (F1), etc.

Some of the programs that I've worked on have gone on the most advanced aircraft in the world:  F15, F14, JSF, the Harrier, the Space Shuttle, Boeings & Airbus's of all sorts and assorted other flying thingies.  For a short time, I even got to work on artifical hips and knees.

Basically, my job has given me the opportunity to live abroad (UK) for 3 years and travel extensively throughout Europe & the US.

I occasionaly bemoan the sometimes-absurd life in the corporate world, but then I remember that truly difficult things can only be accomplished by working very closely with others dedicated to the same effort.

Have a good night, folks.

I have been a pool player, a poker player, a pool hall manager, a salesman, a retail manager, a cell phone tech and  for the last year and change i have been a stay at home son/nurse to a sick mother.

Now that she is ok I'm looking for work again. But people tend to shy away from a year and change sized hole in your work history. :(

I noticed a picture thread for your office space but it had no mention of where you actually work.  So...it'd be great to hear the diversity of careers here.  As for myself, I work at Infinity Ward as an artist.  (Call of Duty series developer).

Heh.  Stop by IBN (see SoCal board) some time.  We've got an artist at Treyarch, a tester at EA, and me (Community Architect @ Insomniac). [thumbsup]
