I've decided to start doing the maint on my bike myself. First thing I'm going to attempt is front and rear brakes. I've read the tutorials section on how to replace the brake pads and it sounds pretty easy. I know OEM parts are a lot more $$ so I'm trying to get a feel for if they are worth it or not when it comes to the pads.

Any recommendations for pads? composition? supplier?

I have an '06 S2R 1000. Never had it on the track but would like to get it out there this summer. Most of my riding is canyon twisties and commuting. I also do a long haul trip once a year or twice a year.
Bikes I've jumped and/or crashed:
84 Kawasaki KDX 80 - Bike i learned to ride on when I was young(er)
84 Kawasaki KDX 200 - First naked bike. crashed so frequently the plastics wouldnt stay on.
99 KTM 620 - If you could even get the thing kick started in the first place...
02 Yamaha Zuma - not a motorcycle but still crashed and jumped it way too many times.
04 Harley Road King Classic - Awesome story behind this
06 Ducati S2R 1000 - neither.... yet.

I loved it when I changed to sintered pads.
That material is simply a lot better IMO.

The sponsors should have a selection of aftermarket pads for you - sinter or regular.

I haven't heard many statements saying stock pads are better than aftermarket.

Go to the CAcycleworks site (they are a sponsor here).  The website has a chart to help you pick the right pads for your riding.

The OEM pads come as a kit with new pins, clips and dust shields. I saw aftermarket pads in a blister pack and it contained just the pads.
