TD bank steals

So I have some coins ive collected over the year. I brought it to my primary bank, JP Morgan Chase and asked to deposit them, they said they needed to be rolled. So they gave me some rolls and i went home and rolled them. All my quarter stacks are 100% accurate. At the end of the day at my current job, i have to count the money i made ( i work at a farmers market) before i deposit it so I'm fairly used to counting a ton of coins accurately.

I decided that my 2nd bank, TD bank is closer so i just take it there instead of wasting gas to get to the chase bank.

So I told the teller that id like to deposit these rolls of coins. they said that because they are not machine rolled, they cannot take them and requested that i deposit them in the coin counter machine which is free to TD bank customers.

I replied that ive used that machine several times and its always off by a large amount, usually 20%. Last few times i dump my coins in there, i counted by hand about $100-120. the machine gives me about $70-$80 on that. I have no way of proving how much i had so i took it as a lost.

So I tried to make a point by taking 2 stakcs of $10.00 quarters and $28 in dollar coins. The total should be $48.00 exact. I asked that she verify the amount and she would not. I asked that she come watch me do it, and she would not. Of course, i broke out the coins stack them up to make sure i had $10 in each and then dumped them into the machine.

I got $46.25, off by 1.75 or 7 quarters. It was accurate on the 28 dollar coins though.

I brought it back to her and she stood by the fact that my counting was wrong and that hte machine was right and how they test it a billzillion times a day etc and i just said ill take it as a lost to show you that the machine is wrong. But what does it really matter in the end because i doubt she gives a make the beast with two backs.

So just to let you guys know, this is the 4th time that the machine has counted wrong and its a scam.

Just to reassure myself that im not nuts, i broke open each $10 stack of quarters in front of my brother and had him verify that it was $10, all my stacks are indeed correct.

Those machines are sheisty... no doubt about that.

But whenever I use them, it is usually for large amounts of coins so I never count them before I take them in.

Makes me wonder though because last time I had like $250 worth of change..... according to the machine

That's BS. My bank gave me shit too so I escalated to the Mgr who said they will take it and confirm the deposit with their central facility. I was on the money.

For some reason it makes me feel better about the scam check for almost 3K that came via UPS drawn against TD Bank. It was for the Large format printer I wanted to sell on Craigslist for $250. The extra money was "For my running around" and "to wire money to the shipper to come and pick it up."

Anyway I think I still have that check sitting on the bookshelf.

LOL, Ive had this one happen MANY TIMES. A bank releases escrow and you never recieve it. EVERY SINGLE TIME, the bank has lost the check and ive had to write a letter requesting a stop and reissue. yet their monthly bill is spot on every time.

you should buy a few roll of quarters from the bank then dump them into the machine. if it spits out less than the correct amount, TD is in the wrong.  Technically, the roll of quarters could have contained less than $10, or the machine could have counted wrong.  But since you bought the roll from TD, they eff'ed up either way. 

Do this in front of a manager.  Or pretend you don't know how to use the machine and ask for help.  Or record a single shot video of you buying the roll, walking over to the coin counter and depositing the coins.  Make sure the coins are in view of the camera the entire time.  Show to manager.  If he doesn't want to watch it, upload to youtube.

I really don't understand banks.  They all do essentially the same thing at the same rates, so essentially it comes down to the level of service they provide.  But they all provide CRAP service.
