Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't.

Never win if you don't risk anything.

My pop always said a lottery is a tax on people who are bad at math.

He played the craps tables when they opened up in Tunica.

I remember he'd come home with a wad of 100s.  He rarely lost much.

I once confronted him about it, he said the odds of winning the lottery were 1 in millions

best odds on the craps table are close to 1:1 and the worst odds are around 36:1.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I don't gamble anymore not for a very long time, But when I was 21 or 22  Me and a buddy went to Tahoe to go skiing. we drove from the coast in my 72 Camaro early enough in the morning to make it to the lifts when they opened. I think it was like 1 in the morning that we left. We skied non stop that day and then got a cheap motel I think, or crashed on somebodys floor I can't remember which. I bought a new set of skis, boots, and bindings, while I was there, It cost a few hundred bucks back then, less than $400 I think.

Anyway after the lift tickets and the beer and food and whatever else it came time to go home. I was down to may last 20 bucks and the Camaro needed gas. So even at $1.25 a gallon, 20 Bucks would get us to about Sacramento in a car that got about 12 MPG.  After that, it would have been a couple of days walk to get home. Of course My buddy had spent all of his money, he had 2 or 3 bucks tops. So I said this is what were going to do, were going to play the slots at Harra's. They have a big casino on the south shore right by where we were skiing at heavenly, so we didn't go into Reno or anything.

We started off on the nickel machines until I won $40 then I cashed in for dollars and played the Dollar machines and getting paid $40 $60 and $20 jackpots but not really getting ahead. I got down to my last $5 when I hit a $100 Jackpot and stopped right then and there. I went and got Lance and said were outa here. That was the last time I remember Gambling. We even had enough money for Burger king on the way home.

Went to church w/ a couple that won somewhere between 5-10 mil. Had a very nice house, always drove brand new Escalades/Denalis/Etc, which is cool... I'd probably do the same thing. They blew a lot of it on toys and stupid shit, basically trying to buy friends. What $$ they didn't blow was milked out of them by a local religious organization. His wife left him when the $$ ran out. He died penniless living in a pop-up camper in a shitty local campground a year or two ago. Sad sad sad...

I've bought a ticket now and again, when someone came 'round asking if I'd like to get in on the office ticket pool.

Buying in gives me slightly (read: not enough to matter, generally) better odds at winning than not.

If I won, I'd buy gold and silver, and then visit a very good stock broker to invest a bit more. Leave enough to buy a heap of stupid shit neither I, nor anyone else, really need.

And if you know anybody who recently won a jackpot, tell 'em I'll follow them around and repeat, as advice, what I wrote above, for a mere $20/hr. Grin

if I ever won....I'd buy a reasonable house ( ie:no McMansion ), though I think I'd rather have a nice 4 bedroom rancher on a decent plot of land ( so I can have my own flattrack on the property ) and a bigass barnstyle 2 story garage to be workshop, bike storage, and all that jazz....I'd own a few bikes, a reasonable car....make sure it is all paid off, and put a vast majority of the rest in reasonable investments for to try and pay the property taxes off with the dividends from the investments...and I'd still work, though I'd probably try and change jobs to where no one knows me and has no idea about my situation and step away from their judgements and just live....

so I put my 5 or so bucks down when there is a large jackpot in Powerball and/or Megamillions....I haven't won yet...but I can hope and that particular hope doesn't mean squat if you don't play...and I look at it as Starbucks cup of something or other I have given up to do so, even if I don't win anything....

I don't think someone would mention winning the lottery on a public site..  especially one that they have a lot if friends on as to not cause issues.  Money does bad things to people.

The gold idea is good.. ill have to remember that
