Who wants one?
Me.
Who's getting one?
Me again.
Who has one already?
Not me, I waited for 3G.
Is it worth it?
I don't care, it's pretty and I need an update.
July 11th!

Probably, if unlocked versions are available or what sort of contracts you have to sign up to.
Who has one already?
nah! waitin' for 3G.
Is it worth it?
Probably, once again depends on V2.0 of the software and what app's are available at the iPhone store. (Need a PDF reader)

That's what i thought you were going to say.
Apparently it's $199 for the 8gb, $299 for 16gb.
As for contracts, I'm not sure on that.
Is there such a big diff between 8 and 16 gig. I know, about 8 gig difference.
What won't the 8 gig do that the 16 gig will?

As far as i've read it's just storage space that's it.
the prices are US, here it is likely to be $250-ish 8gig and $400 for 16gig.
Somewhere on par with US prices plus our usual import taxes etc...
I am sure it will be on a 24 month contract with either provider Optus/Vodafone.
We'll when July 11th comes around.

Me. And I'm gonna upgrade it to the 3G.
Is it worth it?
Yes. I don't regret a cent of what I paid for my 2.5G one last year even knowing I'm gonna be upgrading it 9 months later.
July 11th!
Maybe, I'm still waiting to see what plans the local carriers offer, and whether it's worth me waiting til I'm in the states in Aug to get one there and unlock it myself.

Like Matty says, it's _only_ storage space - the extra 8 gig will let you keep ~1500 - 2000 extra songs in it, or something like 25 extra full length movies (compressed specially for the iPhone a 90-120 min movie comes out at ~350Meg).

Hey good idea Big.
I'll be in N.Y. latter in the year too.
Might be a place to buy it.
How do un-lock it to use here, do you have a crack-code....

Wait....WHAT!!!!!
You can put movies on it!
So, Big, what has got you hooked on this phone? Why is it "better" than other phones, except for the movies and songs bit.
I was going to get an iplod but I think I will wait for the phone. Kill two birds, as they say.

Yep, you need to come to Bar Italia some time and have Melvin show you all the cool You Tube stuff he's got on his iPod Touch. I've got a few bits of video on my iPhone, but I don't watch TV at home, why would I want to watch it on my phone?

It's the only actual working web browser on a phone I've ever used. It's got great email support (though it took a little tweaking to make it work well with my mail setup). As alpha geek here at work an ssh client in my pocket has been _very_ useful for off-site disaster repair. Other than that, it just "works right" - I didn't think I wanted googlemaps on my phone, but _geez_ that's been useful a few times! I don't like reading books on tiny screens, but the few eBooks I've downloaded have come in very handy while waiting for people in cafes or pubs.

Yeah, it very much does. I used to use my 60gig iPod pretty much every day, my iPhone has pretty much taken over - I need to manage my music collection a bit more on the 8gig iPhone, but it spends most of its days on my desk at work docked to the computer charging, so it's no big deal to move albums and playlists on and off it every now and then, and hell, it's almost twice as big as my original 5gig iPod, and I happily survived with only the ~100 albums it would store as my "carry around collection"...
I don't think the iPhone is anything like as "revolutionary" as Steve Jobs would like people to think, Blackberry has done mobile email well for years, Windows Mobile phones do a _reasonable_ job of web browsing, the iPod was certainly not the first mp3 walkman replacement, but when you compare the iPhones non-phone functionality with anything else, Apple got everything integrated _so_ much better than anybody else - it really does "just work" for nearly everything. (Note, I'm not trying to say the iPhone is perfect, it's certanly got a few minor niggles that annoy me, not so much 'cause they're serious problems, but mainly issues where I can imagine apple having done something in a way that'd make it work better for me - the lack of copy and paste in email frustrates me, as does the lack of block-select-to-delete, but both of those issues require some serious thought into how to make them work "properly" with the touch screen interface, and Apple are realy good about not having half-arsed "solutions" to hard problems, which is why I suspect those things have been "left out" for now.)

Looks like only AT&T will be selling them in the U.S.A. No 24 month contract no iPhone (they want to stop jailbreaking/hacks)
Though it looks like you can sign up for 24 months with AT&T pay the first month then cancel after 30 days, pay a US$175 termination fee and have an unlocked iPhone.
IN AU, Apple resellers here may have to become optus or vodaphone agents to sell the iPhone.
If unsubsidised/no contract models are sold here, the price will have to be higher than the iPod touch, $399 (8GB) $499 (16GB).
AU details should be revealed soon

Yeah, I'm waiting to see the price differences and contract arrangements - $375 or $475 on a cancelled contract from San Francisco is still likely to be cheaper than a local one bought outright (and there's still a possibility that the rumours saying you'll need to enter the contract to get the phone _may_ just be rumours). I still want to see if any of the local telcos are going to offer particularly good voice/data plans, that may push my decision in their favour (I'm pretty happy with my two separate voice and data plans from voda right now, if they'll roll something like them together as an iPhone plan at a good price it'd be very tempting). I'm also sounding out the possibility of getting work to get me one, which'll mean the pricing issue becomes moot ;-)

Where do you watch MotoGP and WSBK then?
As for your other input, sounds pretty good. There's only a few good bands/music that i listen to so I wouldn't take up too much space anyway. I have a 1 gig Sony Walkman and I haven't even filled that up yet.

Heh, my 60gig is full, and it's only about 30% of my cd collection... (and yeah, everything on my iPod is either a cd I own, a bought download, or legally downloaded free music like the REM and NIN albums or the iTunes free song of the week.)
It scares me sometimes, my cd collection represents around about a Desmocedicci...
