Hi all,

I was a bit reluctant to post on this thread but went back a few pages and realised that it was about motorbikes and not spoons!  My name is Stephen and I am a pretty new rider on a very new M1100S, still finding my riding confidence.  I've previously ridden a Susuki GS500F and a push bike!

I live a bit south of Newcastle and ride mostly to commute to work and back. 

I've not really gotten around to any mods yet, just anodised tyre filler caps!  I thought the plastic ones that came with the bike were a bit tacky.  I'd love a tail chop but am a bit wary of all the posts I've read about the dubious legality of them and the aggressive stance our law enforcement officers can take.

Hope you get to do more than just commute with your Monster in the near future.

Hi Stephen,

      Great to have you along on the Oz Monsters.
Sometimes we tend to get off topic a little, you'll find that out but we do get back on track once someone says so.
Don't be afraid of the tail chop, which is less of a chop and more of an accessory for your bike.
Take in all you can here, use the search to find out any info your looking for. If you can't find what you're
after then ask away.

When you feel comfortable come for a ride with us, all are welcome experience or pace doesn't matter.

Thanks for the welcome.  One of these days I'll get around to going on a weekend group ride.  Generally speaking, how well do these events cater to novice riders?  Well I get left behind or frustrate others if I take the corners more slowly?

Stephen all are welcome as said, newby to not so newby.
We all started somewhere, we are well organized enough that major turns are always marked by a rider.
There is a sweep, leader and mid pack.
Pace never matters you ride as fast as you are comfortable with and if others are faster well they just wait.
Don't feel you always have to keep up or that you are holding others up.
Can't say it any clearer than that your pace is your own always.

So come along when you feel you want to meet up and take a ride with a group of Monsters.

Further to what Matty said:

Simply put the group rides (especially the larger ones) are a social occasion not a race. If it tickles your fancy you are welcome to come along for part of a ride if you would feel more comfortable with that.

A couple of other things to note about the group rides:
. We have only ever lost one bike (that I know of)
. Some of us ride like girls
. The girls are faster than that

To reiterate we do get quite a broad spread of experience, bikes, riders and we are all aware of what that means.

Depends what you call a coastie.  I've moved to Newcastle from Bathurst, and London before that.  My family and I are now living on the Wallarah Peninsula, Lake Macquarie.

I wouldn't ... well not necessarily.

Definition varies greatly with the Coast ending at Budgie, Munmorah or Swansea ... but Lake Macquarie is generally considered Newcastle.

It comes down to one thing really ... Mariners or Scum oops, I mean Jets.
