As demonstrated to me by a generous Flounder/Administrator at the first DIMBY:

Put your thumb on one side.

Put the first knuckle of your index finger on the other side.

Twist, like you're trying to screw on a wing nut. But really hard.

have herm apply said reflector to left arm...

Then go have a beer. But stay away from 'TiNi's margaritas. They'll kick your ass.

If that doesn't work, then yes, apply heat.

This is why I haven't pulled mine off yet. This gives the cop a reason to pull me over, and then I might have to explain what I did with all of the California emissions equipment.  Police

This opening by Mr. El-Twin gives me the chance to ask the following: How can I get SUPERGLUE residue off my fork???  bang head

My bike's previous owner used superglue to put back one of the reflectors and of course, that residue is much harder to take off than the regular glue.  I've been letting it dry up and rub out the chunks that are brittle, but it's getting to the point where all that's left is REALLY stuck.

Suggestions??

 I'm reading my bottle of super glue and it says to use acetone nail polish remover. Have you used Goof off , mild stuff probably similar to nail polish remover, it did not hurt my blingy Ohlins forks. My concern would be accidentally removing the anodize , if that is possible. Wait for others to chime in.

Go to your local hobby store and get some super glue remover. Hobby Lobby has it last I saw (years ago).

i personally like them.. helps keep you seen at night... yea it dont look as badass, but i digress, i dont think id look like a badass in a coffin

My local dealer has some reflective stickers that nearly match the gold tone of the M1100 forks.  Personally I am invisible and I know it.

Ok, so it was easy. Just used two long zip-ties linked together and pulled. Cleaned up the fork legs with Windex. Best ten minute mod. ever.

BTW, it appears that the California DMV does not require fork reflectors. The handbook states that reflectors "may" be mounted.

I hear you on the super glue remover but I was afraid it was too strong and might leave a stain.  I already had a mishap with some brake fluid (don't ask) so I'm a little weary.  I'll give it whirl though.  I bet I could swab it on some cotton and take off what's left of it...it isn't much anyway at this point.

The state doesn't specify because the federal standards apply.
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108

12.12) REFLEX REFLECTORS TEST PROCEDURE

12.12.2) NUMBER
Each vehicle must be equipped with at least the following number of reflex reflectors:
Vehicle type/size Number of lamps
Motorcycles2 Amber (side/front)
2 Red (side/rear)(not required on truck
tractors)
1 Red (rear)

That said, I haven't had them on my forks since about a week after getting it and I've never been ticketed.  I do have a few friends who have been ticketed for the "1 Red (rear)" part of the above standard.  It's why moto shops sell those little thumb screw nickle sized reflectors that go into your plate.


And I have more than a few friends who have been ticketed for:

12.1.2) REAR TURN SIGNAL LAMP
12.1.2.4 MOUNTING LOCATION/HEIGHT
Each lamp, reflective device, and item of associated equipment must be securely mounted on a rigid part of the vehicle, other than glazing, that is not designed to be removed except for repair, within the mounting location and height limits listed in the below table, and in a location where it complies with all applicable photometric requirements, effective  projected luminous lens area requirements, and visibility requirements with all obstructions considered.

MotorcyclesAt or near the rear, at the same height, symmetrically about the vertical centerline, and having a minimum horizontal separation distance (centerline to centerline of lamps) of 9 inches.

Minimum edge to edge separation distance between the turn signal lamp and the taillamp or stop lamp is 4 inches, when a single stop and taillamp is installed on the vertical centerline and the turn signal lamps are red.
Not less than 15 inches, nor more than 83 inches.
